Partial Tear Patella Tendon?

I had an MRI done concluding that I have a High Grade Partial Tear of my patellar tendon. I rested and did PT for 2 months and it's getting worse. I started playing sports again (tennis/basketball/soccer) and it doesn't hurt much worse. I plan on competing on a college track team this upcoming year in javelin. What are my chances of completely rupturing the tendon if I do the full workouts for 8 months (weights, sprints, throws, etc...)?

Okay, I actually have some experience with this.

The reason your pain is getting worse and not better after two months of PT is that there is likely some scar tissue building up along the tendon. And since it's the patellar tendon, that scar tissue is probably rubbing the underside along the cartilage -- you might be feeling a "catching" or "crunching" pain.

Give it some more time. Be diligent in your PT exercizes, but be VERY careful with any other activities. Take it slowly and build up to the level you were at before. This needs more time to heal.

I didn't listen to my therapist and started a running program too soon, which eventually backfired on me and set my recovery back.

Good luck!

ou need to put your health first, the cances are high...daniel son

Well, look at it this way. If you have it fixed with surgery, you run a small risk of not being able to play sports as well as you used to. But if you don't get it fixed, it will rupture, and you'll never play sports again. Get it fixed while you're young and in good shape.
