Dislocated and fractured knee cap along with chipped patella?

just recently about 5 weeks ago i dislocated my knee cap when i fell down from the pain i started shaking and it went back into place its self.. i then couldnt walk and my knee started swelling so i went to the emergency room and they told me what happened which i already said and put me on crutches and my leg in an immoblizer. then they sent me to a orthopedic, then after we went there they put me in a leg cast for 6 weeks and i got it off today. my leg is very week and floppy. i cant control it hardly at all. im scared to bend it because it feels so different. it stil has a little pain when i bend it back to suddenly and it still looks kinda swollen as well. i start physical therapy for it in the next week or so is there anything wrong or is all this normal?

This sounds completely normal. You haven't used those muscles like usually do in a long time and they are already pretty weak. When you go to physical therapy they should recommend icing it and they will start you on a series of exercises to regain your strength. Pretty soon this will all be a distant memory. Do your home exercises that they will give you! This will ensure the quickest recovery. Don't worry though, what you are feeling is to be expected. God bless! I pray for your quick recovery.

wow.....ochhhhhhhhhhhh ...wth

Oh, these durned knees...
I fell and slammed my knee on a concrete step over a month ago and, while it's getting better, I still baby it. I'm really cautious of any movements/postures in case I twist it or put pressure on it the wrong way. It really takes a l-o-n-n-n-g time to heal and get strong again.
Do everything your PT tells you, you can strengthen the muscles all around the kneecap (and thigh, calf) and that'll help the recovery.
Durned knees...
Best wishes. Be patient.

Very normal so don't worry. There was a truama to your leg, plus you were in a cast for six weeks. That's what physical therapy is all about....getting strength and range of motion back. Therapy can be hard work but stay determined and you can do it. Much luck.

This is normal after first coming out of an immobilizer or cast. If you are a relatively healthy person, you will start regaining your mobility and strength over the next 4-8 weeks. After the first couple weeks in physical therapy, you should start to feel signficantly better (but will still have pain) as long as everything is progressing well. I recently saw someone who actually dislocated the entire knee joint and he was back to playing semi-pro baseball after his 4th week in PT (was immobilized the same lenth as you) .good luck!
