What is the latest treatment for parkinson's disease?is it completely curable?

MY GRAND MA IS AFFECTED BY PARKINSON'S DISEASE. WE WOULD BE HAPPY IF SHE SHOWS IMPROVEMENTS IN HER HEALTH . WE'D LIKE TO KNOW THE TREATMENTS AVAILABLE FOR CURING THE DISEASE..SHE ALSO HAD A BRAIN TUMOUR AND UNDER WENT A STERIOSTATIC RADIO THERAPY AT CHENNAI RECENTLY. THE DISEASE WAS IDENTIFIED 2 YEARS AGO..PLEASE HELP US...

Sindhu,

The bad new is that there is no cure. The good news is that there are medications that can help her. I saw another answer suggesting a gerentologist - a good resource. I suggest you see a neurologist that specializes in movement disorders.

Her treatments will likely include a prescription drug called Sinemet. I suspect she already takes it. However, any other additional medications would depend on her symptoms. Some people have shaking and tremors. That can sometimes be treated with certain medications. For some people there is even a surgery. Other people with Parkinson's have troubles with stiffness, and their body not moving. This requires a different strategy. I could go on for a long time.

I write about Parkinson's a lot. I recently interviewed a very respected Parkinson's physician. 95% of her patients are Parkinson's patients. It is a good interview for how to best treat Parkinson's.

When the patient and doctor work together, people can get some function, and some of their life back. However, because Parkinson's gradually gets worse, she will eventually decline.

There is a lot of other good information at:

Please get her to a movement disorders specialist. Encourage her to talk very openly. They may be able to help a lot.

Parkinson"s is not completely curable but there are many meds for it-Take Grams to a gerontologist if she is not already going to one
