My father has got Parkinson's Disease?

my father has just been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease,
what does this mean? how long has he got left?

Parkinson's Disease is a neurological degenerative disorder. What this means is that there are certain cells in the brain which help control bodily movement. The disease gradually causes these cells to die, making movement difficult. At present, there is no cure.

Parkinson's is NOT fatal. Though there may come a time when your dad needs some extra help dressing or walking, the good news is there are advances being made toward finding a cure every day. Most people with PD continue to live long full lives.

One important thing I would suggest is that your dad find a good neurologist, preferably one who specializes in movement disorders (MDS). Support groups can be of help too, both for the patient and the caregiver (you?). There are lots of websites with good information about PD. I listed some of them here. Good luck to you and your dad.

its cancer

Don't listen to him, it's not cancer!!!

Hi, I'm sorry about your dad.

Parkinson is a disease in the brain that causes

1) tremor/trembling. In the beginning it's just a slight trembling in one hand or foot and looks almost like a beating.
2) Stifness of the muscles - you may notice that his arms don't swing much when walking.
3) Movements become slow
4) Eventually poor balance and coordination

As symptoms get worse - it happens slowly - patients may have trouble walking, talking and their personality may change (depression, moody, agressive etc)

There is no cure but a lot of different medicine help the symptoms. The GOOD news is: People with Parkinson live pretty much as long as other people their age.

I'm not sure how old you are but I've included some info links.

Hope that helps a little.
