Has there ever been a child diagnosed with parkinson's disease?

My sons body vibrates. It is noticeable in his hands and head. Everything I search points to parkinson's. His grandfather and great grandfather have been diagnosed with parkinson's, but the doctors I've asked say that my son can't have it because he's too young. (My son is 10.) I don't think the disease cares how old a person is.

This disease does... Because it takes a long period of time to deplete the brain of dopamine.
If he vibrates, he could have a multitude of other neurological diseases...
Fredreich's Ataxia
Benign Familial Tremor
Etc..
The point is, you need to see a specialist such as a pediatric neurologist and have him checked out. Get him genetically tested if necessary.

I think the youngest someone has ever gotten Parkinson's is 30. I think his shaking is probably due to seizures or epilepsy. Have his doctors checked for that?

Hi Denise, It is highly inlikely that your son will have been developed Parkinson's at such a young age. It is commonly a disease that is associated with elder persons with a ratio of about 90 % of men over the age of 65 being diagnosed. This does not mean yournger people cannot develop the condition though Denise. However, it is person's considerably older than your son who develop the disease. Michael J Fox and Mohammed Ali both developed Parkinson's signs at a very young age. Without seeing your son's notes it is difficult to be conclusive in diagnosis but I would suspect that your sons symptoms are not from Parkinson's Disease.

I doubt that it's Parkinson's disease that you are describing. You should seek the advice of a Pediatric Neurologist and ask for an MRI and for an EEG. It sounds like your son could have some kind of other Neurological problem like seizures. Good luck and I hope that you find answers for your son.
