Latest on parkinson disease?

my father age 70 years has parkinson since last 4 years and his hands shake and leg too but not always and it increases when he is stresed..please help me by educating me on this topic

:( pierre trudeau (pm of canada) died of parkinson's disease :(

parkinsons is a disease of Brainstem. where the chemicals which are essential in controlling fine motor actions are imbalanced, so there's deficiency of DOPAMINE & excess of Ach.
in laymans language, these patients experience fine tremors in hands/fingers when they try to reach an object thats called INTENTION tremor.
he must start taking the L-dopa(or a combination of L-dopa & carbi-dopa) the disease if progressed to late stages affects gait, every kind of activity & mental slowing.
mask like facies, festinant gait & mental slowing are sum late complications.
is he on any medication?

I think he needs neurostimulator device (brain pacemaker), it is implanted inside the body by surgery, the best solution rightnow in the world.

1) Stress, you say? A book I'm reading on Alexander Technique agrees. It lists Parkinson's as a psychosomatic disease! Alexander technique is an approach to using your body effectively. Actors and musicians rely on it. If you try it together, your friends will notice that all of a sudden both of you are looking good.

2) One of my friends pursued all kinds of nutritional remedies without sucess, but - hey, I guess that was before bio-available vitamins like Eniva!

3) Call 1-800-herbdoc and ask what "The Incurables Program"
could do for Parkinson's. Dr. Richard Schultze feels anything can be cured by cleaning up the colon. That would seem to make sense for an elderly person, wouldn't it?

Circulation, nutrition, elimination -- Hit 'em all and the worst you'll have is a person with Parkinson's who looks and feels terrific!

p.s. Positive social interactions and even humor increase dopamine levels. Please try natural solutions before meds and surgery! If they actually worked, you wouldn't see that much Parkinson's, would you?!

Parkinson's disease (PD) belongs to a group of conditions called motor system disorders, which are the result of the loss of dopamine-producing brain cells. The four primary symptoms of PD are tremor, or trembling in hands, arms, legs, jaw, and face; rigidity, or stiffness of the limbs and trunk; bradykinesia, or slowness of movement; and postural instability, or impaired balance and coordination. As these symptoms become more pronounced, patients may have difficulty walking, talking, or completing other simple tasks. PD usually affects people over the age of 50. Early symptoms of PD are subtle and occur gradually. In some people the disease progresses more quickly than in others. As the disease progresses, the shaking, or tremor, which affects the majority of PD patients may begin to interfere with daily activities. Other symptoms may include depression and other emotional changes; difficulty in swallowing, chewing, and speaking; urinary problems or constipation; skin problems; and sleep disruptions. There are currently no blood or laboratory tests that have been proven to help in diagnosing sporadic PD. Therefore the diagnosis is based on medical history and a neurological examination. The disease can be difficult to diagnose accurately. Doctors may sometimes request brain scans or laboratory tests in order to rule out other diseases. At present, there is no cure for PD, but a variety of medications provide dramatic relief from the symptoms. Usually, patients are given levodopa combined with carbidopa.

Additional symptoms that may be associated with this disease:
Depression
Confusion
Dementia
Seborrhea (oily skin)
Loss of muscle function or feeling
Muscle atrophy
Memory loss
Drooling
Anxiety, stress, and tension

With some people gets bad over years more faster with some not....it's individual.

Make him stay active, and independent as much as he can...Let him do some sport not to get totally rusty.
