Are sociopaths , physcopaths born that way or is it bad parenting ?

If a parent has a mental illness such as depression that seems to have been passed on from generation to generation does a mother have to be careful on how she raises her son. Can being exposed to horror movies and violence at such a young age be a cause.

No, I believe sincerely that they are born that way. If caught at a very early age, therapy could help. But most don't get this opportunity or they are able to make everyone believe that they are fine--in fact...wonderful. Most give that impression until they are caught.

there are certain things that are hereditary, such as depression, bi-polar, etc. It just depends on the amount of genes you received from the parent with the illness, or perhaps a combination of their minimum equaled a big enough dose for one to receive the illness.

It can also be attributed to bad parenting, really depends on the situation at hand so as not to be too stereotypical.

Just think of it this way, it's all caused by chemical imbalances or bad memories.

Generally, sociopathy is classified as an attachment disorder. Children that are not bonded with early in their development find ways of adapting to society to learn and model behavior. If they are mistreated for example the likelihood of them mistreating others is higher then in a normal person.

For years, people have been searching for the definitive answer to the Nature vs. Nurture issue, as it applies to many different ares in life. In my humble and research-driven opinion, the answer to your qusetion is 'both' and then some. While this may seem to be a cop-out, if you think logically through the problem, you may come to the conclusion that even the most normal of kids, if raised in a heinously immoral environment would tend toward the actions they have been raised around. Conversely, a 'disturbed' individual who never is exposed to inappropriate behaviors may never learn them. The bottom line is, in the imperfect world in which we live, it is virtually impossible to discern the answer to your question.

Unfortunatly Sassy, Just recently scientific research proves people are born with these conditions.
I believe that bringing them up to the best of one's ability, & to keep them from being predisposed to repeatedly watching violent movies, games etc of that nature would be a huge help, by not stimulating thier sensitivity that would start the thought processes happening.

Thoughts meditated on long enough, eventually becomes a reality.

So the best thing someone could do to help such an individual, would be to steer them away from the things I mentioned earlier.

Although they may have the genetics, remember that we all have a free choice on what we do & do not do. There are groups for these people to attend.
One I know of is called 'Grow'. I think your local hospital would have information on that.
