Are parents to blame for bullies and wimps?

The first years a child lives, they're foundation of their own personality is carved by their experiences. Is "abusive" or "neglectful" or "too cautious" or "over protective" parenting to blame for someone to fall under the category of bully or wimp for the rest of their life?

I don't think it's that simple. Sure, the parents have a great deal to do with the way their child develops, but we are also born with certain psychological and physical traits. Some people have disabilities that parents have little or no control over. Some people will be picked simply because of the way they look or talk. Sometimes the parents have little or no choice about the school system their children have to use.

In 1957, I was born with blood leaking out of my brain and I wasn't breathing. The doctors said there was a high risk I would be mentally retarded, have cerebral palsy and/or epilepsy (as it turned out, none of that ever happened).

Gradeschool was horrible; I had learning and attention problems, and mild coordination difficulties. I was interested in drawing and animals, but I was terrible at just about everything else. I had maybe two teachers who were good to me, but the overall experience was bad. I got bad grades and I was bad at sports too. The school tried to classify me as mentally retarded, but my IQ tested above average.

I was picked on constantly by both boys and girls. I had to fight a lot. I was a really mean fighter, but it was pretty clear that I didn't start the fights, so I never got into much trouble because of it.

My parents finally switched me to a private school with smaller classrooms and more attention from the teachers, but it was sixth grade by then; my last year of grade school. I think it should have been done much earlier, but my parents didn't make enough money at that time. Then, I went back to puplic school in high school. I didn't make good enough grades to go to a private high school.

In my case, I don't think my parents are to blame for anything. It was the public school system. Also, we have programs for kids with learning disabilities now. When I was that age, they only had programs if you were mentally retarded or had some obvious handicap such as a visual or hearing impairment.

I tend to agree with that.

It's the kids parents or guardian's responsibility, on how to raise them, therefore they are to be the blame for those who bully other students in school.

Yes, their youngest years is the time when the brain undergoes the most change, followed by adolescence. The parts of the brain responsible for decision making, understanding social conduct, etc. are growing dramatically during the earliest years and without proper parenting or a model to follow, the child will not experience optimal growth. This is not to say these same parents are bad people, they just aren't good parents...they probably have good intentions but don't know how to do the actual thing.
