Parents get mad at me for having symptoms of ADHD? |
my parents are always on my case because i always speak before thinking, can never sit still, and have trouble paying attention. they always yell at me when i forget something they said or accidently daydream when they're talking to me. i always try my best to obey their wishes and listen and sit still but its always really really hard for me. i was curious and looked up the symptoms of ADHD online and took a test to see if i likely have ADHD and although its not a diagnosis, it said i almost positively have ADHD. whenever i mention this to my parents and ask if maybe i can go to a doctor to see if there are any medecins or pills that could help me, they always tell me that im just making up excuses for my "behavior". i dont even remember what they mean by "behavior". they yelled at me once telling me what my "behavior" was but even then i could barely concentrate on what they were telling me. ive never done anything horrible.. just forget instructions sometimes talk to someone at school they will be able to help you and help you to get your parents to listen to you. take care good luck Maybe you're parents are not aware. Explain how you feel and give them credible information about ADHD, like characteristics. Tell them that you are concerned you might have ADHD and ask if they can get you evaluated. Of course they get mad. Having a kid that can't control themselves is VERY frustrating. You need to admit your own responsibility in this, though. You are not taking responsibility for your actions and you are blaming your problems on ADHD. Frankly, I wouldn't want to be on the meds if I were you. They have some pretty crappy side-effects. You need to stop diagnosing yourself and stop being so selfish. Start thinking about other people. Ask your parents if you can start taking St.Johns Wort. It's just vitamins but they might help you chill. Talk to your counselor at school and tell him/her that you think you might have ADD or ADHD and would like to be tested but your parents don't think it is necessary. They can call your parents and suggest that you get tested. They do not just send you to a doc and you get meds. You need to see a doc and get a referral to a clinci that tests for these things and go through extensive testing and then they recommend treatment based on your diagnosis. You parents may be afraid of the stigma you will have if you do test positive or they may be afraid of the expense and time of testing and treatment be it meds or counseling or both. Talk to your counselor about this though. I am so sorry. I know how difficult it must be. I think there are two things you could do. One is speak to your doctor on your next visit. Your doctor is the one to diagnosis you are refer you to a specialist. The other is to speak to your teachers. They cannot test you or diagnosis you because ADHD is considered a medical condtition and not a learning disability but they can make notations about observations of you such as a teacher might observe that you have marked inattention on a daily basis in his or her classroom. I hope you get the answers you need and get help soon. Hang in there and don't give up! Talk to your school counselor & tell them your concerns. But you might also think about your diet, because some people have different reactions to certain foods. My son got very violent when on dairy products. So you may want to take 1 food at a time you like & not eat it for a couple weeks & see if you feel any different, if mot then keep going doing 1 food at a time, it couldn't hurt. You May want to forewarn your Parents of the Possible effects it could have on there health, If they continue to scream at you like that. Then giggle sinisterly and walk off backward while rubbing your hands together in an evil fashion. Relax dear, your nothing more than a typical kid. When you grow up, you will say the same things to your kids. Parents are also victims of ADHD. Their kids don't pay any attention to them, they are huge discipline problems, the schools have huge problems trying to teach them anything. My neighbor is 9 and has ADHD. Last week he brought a toy gun on the school bus and terrorized everyone including the bus driver, saying he was going to kill them all. So now he can't ride the school bus and his parents have to drive him 35 miles to and from school every day. |
