Sleep paralysis? Help I need to sleep!!?

I know this is really weird. I was laying in bed, I think I woke up from a dream? And I was bit on the neck, raped, and then choked. I was trying to scream, but I couldn't. I even tried banging on the wall, because my roommates are in the room next to me.. couldn't move. I was obviously terrified and thought I was losing my $%@ing mind. I came to the conclusion of sleep paralysis? These sorts of episodes happened to me as a teenager(early to mid teens). And I don't know if it matters, but I was sexually abused as a child. Are those kind of vivid hallucinations possible? The dream I had before the episode was of a woman and I was about to kiss her.. and thats all I remember from it. I also remember screaming at something/someone directly after the episode to get out of my body and felt like I was shaken kind of harshly. Really spooky! Sounds crazy I know!!

p.s. i would really like some kind of immediate solution for this problem.. since i haven't slept since the incident (too scared!)

Sounds like your brain awoke before the rest of your body. You're right, it is sleep paralysis. It is believed that dreams occur during REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. During this stage, the only part of your body that moves is your eyes. The rest of your body is, essentially, paralyzed (to keep you from acting out your dreams). Occasionally, your brain will awaken and not communicate to the rest of your body to follow suit. There's not much you can do about it besides trying to remain calm and remembering exactly what is going on.

Hope this helps.

this happens to me too, except i leave my body and it freaks me right out.

what i do is try and wiggle my toes and when i finally wake up i'll cuddle with something (my teddy) and change positions (from lying in my back to the fetal position)

--------------------------p.s. try and avoid going to bed really really late, i find the more wacked your sleep pattern is the more it occurs, it happens a lot when your over tired as well. It always happens during my afternoon naps. Good luck

Your attacks are very likely to be related to your sexual abuse, unfortunately those things as you probably know stay in mind forever and many things bring the memories back. I strongly suggest you visit a psychiatrist and tell him about your episode, your sexual abuse problem and how you feel about it, he will probably start you with a pharmacology battery and some therapy.

He will know what to do, what just happened to you is common
And please never ever be ashamed of going to a psychiatrist, you have gone thru a lot, don't listen if anyone judges you about going to a psychiatrist, they don't know what you have lived

Good luck!

I can't make this any less terrifying than it is but I have seen similar situations. Both of these women had been sexually abused. One of them at the time she had these kinds of dreams was unaware of the abuse because she had repressed the memory. Both of them had dreams in which they had been chased by unseen entities, raped, and almost killed in various ways. They experienced the same level of terror in their dreams but were unable to move when they thought they were awake. One of them has come to terms better than the other with the abuse she suffered and surprisingly she was serially abused many times by more than a dozen men as she was growing up. The other has not done as well with the repressed memory she still has problems dealing with it. At some point they both have become bisexual and very experimental in their sex lives. I just read this and wanted to let you know that your experience is not bizarre or unprecedented. I hope you get a chance to work through this and these kinds of things seem to happen at times of stress. Hope this helps.

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress,
dietary and medical problems. By making
small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly,
insomnia can be cured. I found the information
