Does anybody suffer from sleep paralysis? What are your thoughts on it? |
I suffer from sleep paralysis and would love to talk to other people that either do or have any knowledge on the subject. I have done quite a bit of research on the subject and am interested in both the physical sleep paralysis and the apparantly 'mythological' aspect of this condition(seems real enough to me,lol). Any comments and discussion would be welcome I have just posted a question with the opposite problem! I find myself physically waking up but while actually continuing to dream - which has horrible result of me acting out my dream; this is bad enough but a lot of the time I am aware of my physical surroundings but will "see things" such as animals or my house collapsing around me, terrifying as am convinced for long seconds that it must be real as I feel awake. Usually stops when I put light on. But other person is right - both of our experiences are form of Narcolepsy. say wut!!!!!!!!!>.< no i don't suffer from that but u are dreaming and u start walk sleep that's all i know I think my uncle had it and then he died of bulimia It happened to me a few times. I was aware that I was awake, but could not move my body....VERY scary!!! I read someplace that all people are paralyzed while they are dreaming which keeps them from hurting themselves during their dreams; especially if the dreams have violence in them. I've never had it, but I have always been horrified by the thought of it. Only when the other half snakes his hand around for a grope lol Yes ive had this a few times. I wake up (without opening my eyes) and i feel like i cant breath. Im struggling to take a breath and imagining my mother coming in to find me dead and ambulances rushing around. I can hear everything going on around me and at one time i could feel my boyfriend next to me but i couldnt move. I only get this if im sleeping on my back. It's a very interesting and freakish experience. Some people have it just when they fall asleep and some do when they are about to wake up. Sleep paralysis is also associated with narcolepsy for some reason. I've only had this experience a few times but I find it fascinating and frightening at the same time. There are set themes (monster or evil presence, floating, etc.) and usually it is the same theme for the person experiencing it. For me it is alwasy the same theme, it starts with being completely paralysed but I want to move and I can't. Then as I struggle to move I command to my arm to move, and instead I just float upwards into the air whilst my body remains on the bed. I am above my body and I realise that it is impossible to move my body if I'm not inside it. So I'm really struggling to get 'down' and move that arm. Then it always ends with finally being able to move the arm. The other thing is that whilst my eyes are closed throughout the experience I see everything vaguely and everything is in white. I thought that if I just master the art of commanding my body to move while I'm not in it I would be able to teach myself to move objects without touching them but somebody told me that I shouldn't toy with this idea. It is frightening but so intrigueing at the same time. Ergh, I've had this since I was little. Sometimes I go for six months without it happening, and sometimes it'll happen every night for a solid week. It's scary. I remember telling my mother about it, and she would tell me it was just a dream. I try to stay calm when it happens now, but calm doesn't last for long when you can't move. :/ I experienced this just recently (last month) I woke up sleeping on my back something I rarley do. I could not move I tried and could not move so all I could say was Lord help me and then I could move.So far I have not had this feeling since and I hope to God I never have it again. I've had this on occassion and it bothers me no end as it makes me feel like I'm smothering. Once I'm awake enough to be coherent though I relax and concentrate on the breathing and it passes soon enough. |
