I've had a very recent interesting expierence as of late which happened to me yesterday morning before I got up. This has never happen to me before and it really scared me.
Yesterday morning before I got up in the morning I found myself laying my bed still asleep in a state of what I hope was sleep paralysis. I was laying under my covers with my head between two pillows. I think I was caught in a state of lucid dreaming of some sort because my eyes were wide open and I was semi awake. I could see out of my own eyes, but then again I felt as if I was out of and beyond the point of normal perception of seeing because even though I was seeing out of my eyes. I could see things else in other places in the utmost vivid detail I could ever describe beyond normal means of perception. Too me seeing and feeling this expierence was something more than reality could even begin to scrape. But really this isn't the part of which that starlted me the most, I've been the victim of sleep paralysis for quite a while now and anyone who's been a victim of it knows how unsettling an expierence it is. The startling thing that happened to me this morning as I was sleeping in this state deeply disturbed me. As I was laying in bed, semi awake and semi asleep with my eyes open in bed I felt some presence come up and over my body and almost it felt into the window of my mind. This presence crept subtly over me I felt it, it's presence didn't feel evil, and then again not too benevolent as well.
As I was laying there I started to hear some faint whisper. At first I thought I may have been talking random slur in my sleep which happens sometimes when I'm having a good nap but usually when this happens i'm usually dead asleep and not aware at all. The voice that spoke was in a quiet whisper barelly audible. The voice spoke and said "Good Morning Daniel" using my name. Hearing this I became somewhat confused and I tried to find the source of this voice. It didn't take me long to find it. I noticed as I was laying down still in state of sleep paralysis I noticed that one part of my body was moving but it wasn't me moving it under my control. It was my mouth speaking in that audible whisper my lips moving and my faint breath giving the volume to this outside voice. As I realized this I heard more of the same whisper it said, " It's time to get up, and I know you can hear me." After hearing this it scared the hell out of me, but after that I was soon able to find myself able to get up and get out of bed a little bit startled, it wasn't until later in the day when I started to think about it more and become more fearful of it.
I don't know what is going on right now but whatever it is that happened to me scared the hell out of me, and I haven't been able to sleep decently because of it.
My head hasn't been feeling the same since then as well either it feels odd somehow. I haven't told anyone else about this expierence for fear of ridicule and disbelief. If anyone can shed any light of logic what the hell happened to me that morning then it would be a great comfort to me, and I would be greatly in your debt. If there was someone using me for a puppet that morning, then I would like to know who it was and why they chose me. It's happened to many people although they often forget about it. Your brain send out chemicals that shut down the voluntary muscles when you sleep so you don't thrash and wake up. so when you dream about walking your brain is sending the signals to your legs but since it knows your in a sleep cycle it's blocking the same nerves. What you had happen is you "woke up" before your body did and still had the residual paralysis of sleeping so it seemed like it was wrong, but it happens to every one every night.
As far as the part about you internal dialog becoming an audible external one? I think you were confused because of the over all experience. i think so too What you experienced is not a rare occurance. I have had those many times and I know many people that's had it. But, what alot of people don't know about it is, it's the start of an Out of Body Experience, which it sounds like you had. You should research it a little bit. If you are educated about it, it won't scare you as much. u definately need to tell a psychologist or psychiatrist maybe even a therapist, they are far more knowledgeable in what kind of manifestation this could be. It's not unusual for this to happen. I have experienced the exact same thing several times.
Don't feel that you are a VICTIM.
Usually, It goes away on its own after several days. However, in the mean time, write down everything that you are eating, drinking or any meds that you might be taking. Sometimes changes in sleep habits or stress can act on vivid dreams in a semi-awake state of paralysis - including the hearing of voices, music or other sounds. I know its weird how vivid this experience is. It is almost like the Twilight Zone.
If these dreams persist consult a sleep disorder center for diagnostic treatment.
As an added note my experiences with this included: paralysis with eyes open and a conscientious effort to breath, feeling a tapping on my shoulder, voices from the non-living, rapid heart beat, feeling of involuntary confinement, inability to speak and even temporary blindness. Hi Daniel,
DON'T BE AFRAID, YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!
From what I have read about sleeping paralysis and it's associates, I think around 1 out of 2000 people experience this problem at least once in their lifetime. Some people may actually experience what you have on a daily basis according to a men's health guide I have.
According to medterms.com you may be experiencing Hypnopompic hallucination which is "a vivid dreamlike hallucination that occurs as one is waking up. I actually experience the opposite to this and is called hypnagogic hallucination, which occurs when I fall asleep or about to fall asleep.
Since this may be your first experience, some causes that might contribute to your sleeping disorder may include stress, anxiety and daytime behavioural issues.
Have a look at the sources (particularly the virtual men's health one) I have included below for possible "treatment" ideas that you could follow if you begin experiencing this again.
Hope my information helps...
Good luck with it and try get a good night sleep next time! I dunno.Maybe sleep paralysis happens by natural causes. but sometimes I think its not. I grew up in a Christian home, so I do believe in demons. I have been through sleep paralysis many times, some episodes have been far stranger than others. like once, i woke up hearing radio static coming from my surround sound in my room. so I sit up to check if the radio was on and it wasn't. so i laid back down cause I was too lazy to investigate further, then the static noise got louder, and i heard my friends voice speaking in my head, like gibberish then I prayed and it instantly stopped.
Another time both me and my mom had sleep paralysis at the same time. I was about 8 or 9, We used to sleep with the radio on before this. Ok, so we turned the radio on and went to be, then we both woke up at the same time, paralyzed, and screaming at a low volume... well more like a shaky moan. and we heard like.....kinda hard to explain... like 50 different radio commercials playing all at once in our head. we prayed, turned it off and went to bed.
If sleep paralysis is purely a natural phenomena I really doubt it, cause its impossible for something to naturally happen like that to 2 different people at the same time, hearing and feeling the same thing. But no matter what, it ALWAYS goes away instantly when I pray. |
