Is there a cure for panic disorder? If not, we need tranquilizers possibly for life.?

Some drs. feel people with panic disorder should not take tranquilizers for long term. Like me, cannot tolerate anything else but tranquilizers for panic disorder. If we had another disease then those people get their meds to control it. But people with panic disorder many times are put into panic mode because the dr. will not give them tranquilizers long term, and possibly for life for this disorder. We are not drug addicts. One thing I know is, if those drs. had this disorder, they would understand, and( there needs to be way more understanding of this disorder believe me, I have asked many questions over the 20+ years of this, and no good answers, in the medical community, they should be asking us what helps ) the need for these meds. would not be questioned again if some of the drs. who don't help us with these meds had the disorder. I am hopeful for better communication for comfort and peace for panic people. I don't believe there is a cure. Its a medical condition.

Sadly doping up on sedatives is not the answer and eventually (like all drugs) the body grows accustomed to it and requires stronger and stronger doses to have the same effect, well eventually you reach a point where it's no longer any use and by then the patient has come to depend on them, see the problem?
There isn't a cure, people just have to learn to control their own reactions.
It's classed as a mental illness,and it's often a genetic trait.
Most doctors would rather send the individual to counseling because panic attacks are a reaction to stress and stress is psychological.
I've suffered with panic attacks since I was 5 years old but it really kicked in and caused problems in my life when I hit my teen years, couldn't go to school, couldn't see my mates and hang out, couldn't even step outside the door!
They sent me to counseling and all they threatened to do was send me to a mental hospital,I was 13 for goodness sake!
They were supposed to be helping me find the source of my problem and reduce my stress and they made it 100x worse!
To be fair my Doc did *eventually* offer to put me on Diazepam but I refused because I know how addictive it is.
Anyway I still have my problems to some degree but I learnt to control my panic attacks and head them off before they start. It's not about sedating yourself and trying to prevent the panicky feelings, the way to over come it is to run through the problem in your head,if you start to feel an attack arrive do a quick mental check to see what triggered it,and when you think it through logically it suddenly doesn't seem like a big deal and because you're feeling calmer the attack eases off before it's had a chance to hit.
The thing that helps most with panic attacks is having someone there who's calming to you and supportive, and a lot of people just arn't understanding of panic attacks,i've had someone call an ambulence before thinking I was having a severe asthma attack,it's just something that needs to be understood better, both by the general public and those int he medical profession.

I suggest taking a look at the Emotional Freedom Technique website and in particular this page: http://www.emofree.com/Panic-anxiety/dai...

People use EFT for a wide number of conditions as you will find on this site. You can download a manual for free and you can find examples of EFT tapping on youtube.com

You may also want to check online for an EFT practitioner in your area who can lead you through some sessions.

Do continue your regular medical treatment as you explore the benefits of EFT until such time you find that you no longer need it.
