Help. Panic Disorder!?

How many people in the world have panic disorder? I need to know how you know this.

Sometimes I feel alone, like I'm the only one.

You are not the only one, there are oodles of us around.

Once I was diagnosed, I mentioned it to friends are some closer aquantiences and I was shocked as to how many said, "me too"

It totally sucks to have one, but once I was daignosed it was much easier. I found out that I was not "crazy" I was not going to be locked up in a psychiatric hospital. I learned relaxation techniques that really helped. I was off meds for quite awhile (Back on them now, though), I occasionally have a panic attack, but knowing what is happening to my body and using the relaxation techniques really helps so they are no where as bad as they were. At one time I rarely left the house for fear of having an attack, that fear would bring on an attack. Now I am rarely home, if i am having a particularity stressful time, I let those close to me know, and they understand if I am "out of sorts"

I hope you are feeling better, and you are definately not alone

dont worry you are not the only one who experiences them.

my cousin has a panic disorder too...

I've felt that way a lot...like, 5 times a week. But suposidly, my doctor says im perfectly normal....I think he's wrong, but whatever. I have friends that help me get through it, i love them :-)

I suffer from panic disorder. My only comfort is holding a piece of ice. For some reason something cold calms me down. I use to take Xanax but it leaves me zonked. My husband too suffers from the same disorder.

I have been diagnosed with severe anxiety disorder-it affects my life in too many ways. I am on Buspar,Valium and Propananol. They do help but I still have moments of terror. You are not the only one, hang in there and get medicated if you're not. Good luck Angel :)

I have panic disorder among other things. You definitely are not alone. It's a very scary feeling and I used to think I was alone too.

There are ways of helping...but right now that route isn't working too well for me. I'm taking Xanax and Paxil. They are working but are very addictive and the Paxil really messes with your brian chemistry. Are you doing anything or seeing anyone about your panic disorder?

I have had two severe attacks, I thought I was having a heart attack both times and went to the emergency room! Now, I just take a deep breath, and tell myself that I am not dying. That I am not in any serious danger. I say that over and over with deep breaths.

I have panic disorder with alot more and it is getting wrost now when i was on my exffeor xl and colzanpam i was pretty good now i thoought i was fine and went off the meds and belive me it is worst and more problems comes get to the doctor and get on the meds they really help and dont go off of them when you think you are alright and try not to be around stress either it makes it worst and that is a big chore to stay relax and no stress and try breathing in and out really slow and fous on something when you have a attack good luck

I suffer from anxiety and panic attacks from time to time. I take Ativan, about 1mg a day or as needed. It does work, but if you take it too frequently, your body will build up a tolerance to it..
Also, sipping on a hot cup of coffee for some reason, helps my anxiety when in social situations or at work. I try to only take the ativan when I need it, so I'll feel that its working for me.

Many people suffer with this disorder.

Please check with a doctor.

good luck

I used to and was manifested by hyperventilating and feeling like I was going to die. I changed some major things in my life, gave power to myself, not others, and worked through it. Good luck.

Its shocking when you are first told you have something like this, the symptons are really scary and you do honestly think you are loosing your mind/or dying, however when you realise that you are definitely not the only one, that its your bodies fight or flight response gone into overdrive its time to examine whats working or not working in your life and deal with underlying causes, The most important thing is to understand the process and how to, deal with it. Learn to control what you think, visualise a comforting person or place, use positive affirmations focus on controlling your breathing all these type of things. Contact your locall community health centre and find out about joining a support group. Good Luck/
