I have panic disorder and need advice?

Ive had panic disorder since 19, now 27. Im sick of ssri's not working, making me worse, giving me awful side effects, changing my persomality, making me fat...Ect. Does anyone know of herbal remidies that have helped them? I know yoga, excersise, eating right, cutting out stimulants. I know what to do, im just sick of drugs!! Has anything helped?

Exercise is a wonder drug, truly. Ever since I was diagnosed as bipolar, I've been in the gym 4-5x a week. It's incredibly effective.

As for supplements, try to get as much Omega-3 as you can into your diet. I take fish oil caplets. They don't taste bad, but you may burp up some salmon here and there.

Omega-3's are very instrumental in regulating moods and helping the brain produce more serotonin (just like ssri's, but only more natural). I switched from butter to Smart Balance, Barilla makes omega-3 enriched pastas now, I snack on nuts (high concentration of omega-3) instead of other things.

My pdoc advised me to take 5000mg fish oil caplets per day and I have really seen a difference. Now, I'm sure that could be the placebo effect, but whatever it is, it does help.

Also, with a lot of people, taking ssri's w/o a mood stabilizer can actually create more problems and mood swings. By mood stabilizer I mean a class of drugs called atypical anti-psychotics. They sound sinister, but the only side effects I experienced was I felt groggy in the morning for about a week. Then all the side effects went away and it's great to take one before bed because you get get to sleep really easily.

My anxiety has pretty much all gone away. My father is on the same med (symbyax) and he takes it for anxiety as well. He only needs one every 3-4 days and he feels great.

have any of your doctor's tried benzodiazapenes for the panic attacks, I am taking klonopin, and it works great, i am experiencing no side effects (i take 1mg a day). I also take 50mg a day of zoloft, how long did you try ssri's for, because if they aren't titrated properly they will make you more anxious. this happened to me, so the doc cut me back to 25 mg, then 37.5 mg, and eventually 50 mg.
