Has anyone been fully treated from panic disorder by Lexapro? |
I've been diagnosed with panic disorder and OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder) and just started (after 4 months) taking Lexapro. I wondered if anyone got relief ? i have a patient who came ot the er with a panic attack, i started lexapro and he never came to the er again, he comes from time to time in the clinic for routine follow ups but much better controlled anxiety, i love lexapro, good luck I've done pretty well with Luvox. I also have both panic disorder and OCD, and Luvox has been the best. I've been on serzone, effexor, paxil, prozac, and more, but Luvox is the best for me. I am certainly no physician, but have been bi=polar all my life.....I take lexapro as an anti-depressant......Just trust you doctor or maybe find another if you are not sure.....have taken for panic and anxiety such meds as.....clonazapam, ativan, lorazapam, etc. I have suffered with ocd for years along with panic and anxiety disorder then was diagnoised with bipolar disorder. Lexapro has worked for me, I don't suffer those compulsions like I did, the panic and anxiety has been reduced too ( doctor added Rispidal)...I feel much better now. Lexapro is prescribed for depression and generalized anxiety disorders. On my patients in 1 or 2 weeks you can see results on a low dose 10 mg a day. I am going through the same thing right now. I first tried Effexor but hated the side effects and it was pure hell weaning off. So far (not even a week taking Lexapro) I have noticed a slight change, and I feel a little more even keel. But I need to give it more time. My doctor told me it goes into your body a little slower and "cleaner" than Effexor, whatever that means. I am also working with a counselor to get to the root of my anxiety. I believe there has got to be a way to learn to regulate your mind without resorting to being all doped up all the time. Good luck and hang in there. There are a ton of ppl on this forum with the same thing going on. i have ocd as well as gad- i was suffering from depression when i was put on lexapro. it wasnt strong enough so i got switched to effexor. when that didnt work they upped my dosage of it. my depression went away temporarily, in fact it made me emotionally numb, thus camling the ocd and gad. temporarily. honey, you have to accept the fact that some people like you and i were born mentally unstable. as long as you can hold down a job and have a secure relationship with someone youll be fine. relief comes through acceptance. sometimes medication cant cure all. especially when it comes to something mental. I don't have Panic Disorder...but I have Social Anxiety Disorder..and my level of anxiety has decreased dramatically when I'm around people in everyday situations, like school or at family occasions...however, if im in a huge stadium full of tons of people or in a similiar situation I will still get anxious and nervous..then I have to take Xanax a bit before. I've had panic attacks before but as long as I have taken lexapro I haven't had one...one day when my prescription(Lexapro) ran out and I couldn't get it refilled immediately I went to a family gathering and had an attack at dinner...so maybe that serves as evidence to prove it helps...but then again everybodies case is different so I cant say for certain. |
