6 year old with panic disorder?

How common is it for this young of a child to have this problem? My daughter has every single symptom of it...I did some research and everything seems to point that she has a panic disorder. She has been to the hospital before because of it...they pretty much said it was due to stress of us moving out of state. She has attacks mostly at night before bed. She has always been a worrier. She overthinks everything. There is NO abuse going on. She is very loved and does good in school, has lots of friends, does cheerleading, and has a normal life. She has been avoiding eating because she thinks food causes her to have these attacks. When she starts to have one, I usually have her lay down and just tell her to breathe deeply. They usually subside within minutes. Is this normal in a 6 year old?

Kids tend to feed off of our anxiety as well. The change of moving out of state may have been hard for her to cope with. She may be overwhelmed with school or just have problems shutting her mind down at night. My 8 yo daughter also overthinks things and has trouble sleeping because she can't relax her mind and body. It sounds like you are doing a great thing by helping her cope with it. Teaching her coping skills like you have been and how to relax when this happens will help a lot. She is trying to adjust to lots of changes. If it seems to get worse and you are not able to help her with her anxiety, talk to her pediatrician and see if they can recommend a therapist that can help her. Food is NOT causing her attacks...it is her mind. With all of the stresses we as adults face, imagine the little one trying to take it all on too...you feel like you can't be in control and it's frustrating at times. Getting her to learn how to deal with it now will help as she gets older and faces more challenges. Good luck and hope this helped a bit!

Panic disorder occurs to people of all ages. It is not unnatural that your daughter has panic disorder. Of course, she needs to be taken care of. So far, you have been doing the right thing. If she consults doctors, there may be a chance that she'll get over it!

Some kids yes. My oldest daughter was a lot like that too. Especially about her grades and stuff at school. She came home crying her eyes out one day because she made a B on her paper at the first of 1st grade. Her teacher actually got on to me saying I was probably pushing her too hard to "make perfect grades". I calmly explained that I never got onto her about her grades, that she did it herself because she felt like she had to do better. Anyways, some kids are just more sensitive and more self-deprivating than others. She may benefit from going to the school counselor as they might be able to work her through this. And work with her on tips to manage these episodes. It helped my daughter greatly. Best of luck and I bet it has to do with her own personality, no outside influences!

Well I'm a young person and I got diagnosed with GAD (Generalised Anxiety Disorder). I too was having panic attacks. I started seeing a therapist and she told me that I have an adjustment disorder; anxiety is a symptom of that. Your daughter might have that too since you guys just moved. It's totally normal to have anxiety after something like that no matter what the child's age. The good thing is that if you get this treated quickly your daughter will be back to normal in no time. =) I've been in therapy for a little over three months and I've been feeling SO much better. I'm able to go to school without panic and work through my anxiety so that it doesn't make me completely miserable.

Ok, i agree with the doctors that it is stress or anxiety.
I agree that getting regular exercise helps people manage stress. Food does not make you have panic attacks! What she is doing can be very hamful if she does not eat food. Maybe that is a reason and she needs to eat something healthy, no junk food. Tell her that you are there by herside all the time and you will never let anyting happen to her. Getting a good night sleep really matters if she is dealing with stress. Fears are very natural responses. Some people may begin breathing very rapidly. Take her to a children's pediatrics and ask the doctor or nurse. But here is my helpful hints:

When your body has a various threat or fear, you will start to panic and be very scared. There are many ways to help panic attacks such as...

1. Get out of the house and do something outdoors
2. Do a fun activity
3. Keep your children occupied and do stuff with them
4. Ask them questions about school
5. Read a story to them before they go to sleep
6. Food does not make you have panic attacks!

I'm nineteen years old and I have been having panic attacks ever since i can remember, as early as five. Is it normal? I dont know but it definetly does occur at young ages. But please dont medicate your kid, they suck but medication in young kids screws you up. They tried it with me when i was around 12 and the side effects were worse then the panic attacks! no that im older i deal with them with xanax whenever i get them, and a few other things, but she'll learn her own way to deal witht them, just give it time. btw i know its horrible, panic attacks are the worst feeling you can ever have but as she gets older see how it plays out

This guide might help you know more about the methods to heal panic and anxiety disorders in a natural ways.
