Do you feel Panic disorder is inherited? I do. I have it , now my daughter has it, other family members.?

Panic disorder can run in families. I am seeing it in ours, through the generations. I do not feel it is just caused by stressors in our lives. Yes, it can be caused from a imbalance in our bodies also. A medical condition it is regarded as. I know one thing, I have had it come and go for over 20 years, and people that have it have a high regard for others, and are sensitive intelligent people. Drugs for it? we need safer ways to treat it. They are making people alot sicker. I am in a support group.

I would say not inherited, but, learned.

Just like how we eat is usually how our family ate when we were young.

I couldn't agree more that usually drugs make you worst. It is not a solution, but a cover up.

Have you had all of your hormone levels checked? Some times a hormone imbalance causes so many medical things.
That have simpler solutions.

Great question.

Yes, you're right. Many doctors believe that mental illnesses tend to be hereditary.

yes it can be caused by an imbalance in the body but it can also be passed on by the child imitating behavior. when i am stressed out i get headaches varying in degree to migraines that are debilitating to say the least. my 5 year old daughter has started to "have headaches". I'm not saying that panic disorders cant be hereditary, but there could be other explanations. and I'm not saying that my daughter cant have headaches either. but to me it seems more like imitation,
you also have to remember that "bullying" is considered a medical condition as well. this simply means "we dont know what's going on with that so we'll call it a medical condition and just give people drugs for it". (please dont think I'm belittling your condition! I'm basically giving an opinion about the medical! they dont know about it there's not enough tests on it so they give people drugs to shut them up and call it a "condition" it just aggravates me is all)

Research has show a strong genetic link. Many people find older drugs such as Xanax or even newer SSRI's helpful.

I think it is genetic. It could be learned. i suffer from panic attacks and so does my sister. We share the same father but my sister and I grew up in different countries and she didnt have contact with us. Maybe jsut a coincidence. Panic attacks though are normally caused by depression or anxiety that presents in a physical form. And depression and anxiety disorders are definitely genetic.
