You probably don't really want to know. A friend of mine was diagnosed in February and died in September. It's bad news!

sorry

I can guarantee you you don't want to know my mom was diagnosed in July of 2002 and died a slow death in January 9th 2003

While pancreatic cancer may be one of the more serious types of cancer to get, you should never give up. Ever.

Sounds like the person with pancreatic cancer is someone close to you. Well, they will need you a lot in the coming months. A positive attitude is key and helping them with their spiritual needs too will help.

A person who feels like there is no hope will NOT get well. Only God decides when someone here leaves this world to his loving arms and I have seen and heard of many miracles in this world that left scientists and doctors scratching their heads.

Also, find the closest "teaching" hospital for treatment. Teaching hospitals are better because so many people will be scrutinizing the chart and trying to impress the head doctor by finding something the head doctor might have missed and getting points with the boss. When you have cancer, you want as many eyes as possible looking at your tests and coming up with possible solutions.

Radiation and chemotherapy have come a LONG way in the last 10 years especially. Although Michael Landon had pancreatic cancer and succumbed to it very quickly, who knows whether he could have survived if it happened to him now. There are so many more drugs on the market and drugs on "trial" for treatment.

As far as a web site, just type "pancreatic cancer" in your search engine on google and you can probably come up with many sites that can help you. Don't just limit your search to American sites. Canada and European doctors may have valuable information on the internet as well. We Americans can sometimes have egos and think we are the only ones with solutions when quite often some great medical discoveries come from elsewhere.

I'm so very sorry that you or a loved one are experiencing this type of cancer. Keep a positive attitude and find a doctor who will aggressively help you fight it. Also, find someone who has survived this type of cancer and talk to them. Your doctor may be able to refer you to them. I was diagnosed with uterine cancer last December and my doctor introduced me to 2 of her other patients and their friendships have helped me enormously.

If you live in a city, contact the local "Gilda's Club" or "American Cancer society." Although Gilda Radner died of Ovarian cancer, her Gilda's Clubs all over the country are supportive of all types of cancer.

So, here is my advice
1. Find as much info as you can from the internet
2. Become an expert quickly on the pancreas and terminology
3. Find the best doctor possible
4. Get a second opinion (most insurances will pay for 2nd)
5. Keep a positive attitude
6. Keep a fighting attitude
7. Tell your family/friends so they can help be supportive
8. Find some spiritual help from clergy, reading, etc
9. Find someone who has survived this cancer and talk to them
10. Keep the faith and never give up!
