How do I become a Palliative Care Nurse?

I want to work in a hospice, not a hospital and I don't want to be a traditional nurse - I want my focus to be End of Life Care.
I've looked around at Palliative Care Nursing schools in my city and all I can find are traditional nursing schools.
Anybody know anything about this?
I will contact my local hospice and Palliative Care organization soon to find out details.

Thanks

You must become a nurse in the traditional schooling then can specialize after u get a degree. You could also work as a nurses aide in a hospice or volunteer in one .There are many positions open in hospice units. I have worked in them and also been a volunteer.

You have to attend traditional nursing school. Some places will let you work in palliative right away-- the skills you attained in nursing school are still applicable in the palliative setting. It's just a very different atmosphere. Some places, however, will require you have extra training in palliative care. You can do an extra year after you have your degree to specialize in it.

There are community palliative care courses that run every 6 months. You could try asking through your local council or wait for your local paper to advertise them (every 6 months).
Other courses are distance education courses like Certificate 111 that focus on palliative care which can get you working in nursing homes etc
If you live in USA you could try nursingcenter.com/outoftime or www.rn.com or try www.nursing2007.com
I admire your chosen career path and am thinking of taking up a similar interest.
The college of nursing are actually advertising a Palliative care course distance education package at www.nursing.edu.au but I am unsure if you would be interested as I am certain that it would be a traditional avenue.
There are alternative health hospitals and clinics around you could try looking in the yellow pages. I think they practise homoepathic medcine.
