Discriminated against because i have cancer why?

Can anyone tell me where i can find a Dr that will provide me with the scripts that my oncologist has recommended.
Every local gp i have been to refuses to write out my scripts in case they get investigated, I am terminally ill, and my oncologist is shocked but says he can't help either[true story] all my plea have fallen on deaf ears even the AMA ,the Anti-dis board,the minister for health. what do other terminally ill people do?
I am palliative care only, and looks like i'll be spending my last days in pain, thank you world

Um, people are being very disbelieving here, and I was kinda agreeing with them, til I saw something in your own reply further down. You seem to be really at the end of your tether, and then I see you mention St Vincent's hospital in there.

Everyone, you need to cut this guy a break: I think he has the extreme misfortune to be a terminal cancer patient IN IRELAND!

Seriously, our health system is a total joke. Every week on the news we hear about patients tearing their hair out, trying to get the treatments they need for their conditions.

His story would be totally unbelievable in any other so-called civilised country, but over here, this stuff happens all the time.

I don't have a solution to his problem, and I don't know if anyone over here can provide one for him right now, but please don't doubt, that if he really is from Ireland, his plight is very real, and he isn't the only one affected like this either.

Find a hospice source in your area. We have a hospice hospital in our area, but if you don't then contact your local hospital and they can give you the information to contact them. Hospice works with the terminally ill and can administer any pain meds that are needed. I am not sure why your oncologist can't do it, but regardless, hospice can help. They are wonderful!! Good luck - you shouldn't have to be in pain!

The oncologist IS a doctor and HE (or she) should be able to provide you with prescriptions....and the pharmacy fills them, that's how THAT works.

I know, my mom has cancer and we get prescripts from the oncologist all the time.

If your oncologist is your doctor he should be able to write any prescriptions you need. If he can't or won't I would worry about his credentials. Or maybe he is concerned that you are not taking them in the prescribed manner - maybe you are taking too many. I don't think any other doctor will be willing to do it on your word either and I don't blame them. They could get into all kinds of trouble for writing prescriptions without merit (assuming they are just going on your word). A doctor in my town was arrested a couple of years ago and he license was revoked because he wrote prescriptions for pain medications and the guy was a drug abuser and died from an overdose. There is more to the story but the fact remains that the guy died from take scripts from a doctor that didn't do a full examination of the patient to verify his alleged illness.

Why can't the oncologist write the appropriate prescriptions? They are qualified moreso than a general practioner to do so. Contact Cancer Treatment Centers of America, and the American Cancer Association. They may be able to guide you

i need to tell you all something . i noticed a feeling of disbelief, with some answers, i can tell you its all true and you make it sound all so easy, firstly my oncologist is more then 3 hrs away by bus and train, i am on my own with this, no support no.. resources, the disbelief i feel is the same response i have gotten from the health dept's that i have complained to. I DO NOT JUST WALK IN AND ASK THE dR FOR CERTAIN DRUGS,I HAD A DR TREATING ME UNTIL HE DUMPED ME COLD FOR THE REASONS I HAVE STATED, ALL MY ONCOLOGISTS AUTHORITIES WERE IN PLACE, WHICH IS WHY I AM SO CONFUSED BY IT ALL ..I DO NOT EXPECT DR'S TO "JUST TAKE MY WORD FOR IT"

You sound so hoakie. I have worked in hospice for a number of years and around many cancer pts and if your hospice (pallitive care) your medications are being paid for by hospice. There is never a problem obtaining prescription narcotics for pain relief in the hospice community. As a matter of fact, they are dispensed by the hospice chosen pharmacy and if there are any questions, they contact your physician to work it out.
Surely you dont think the medical industry is as dumb as you think they are.
Its not about being "investigated". Its about all the drug seekers out there who will go to any extent to obtain their "fix". It sounds like you have been caught on to.
Get help. You need it.
