Do Painkillers like ecosprin and asprin double the risk of heart attack? A health article i read said so...? |
A reasonably reliable health magazine I subscribe to , claimed that painkillers double the risk of heart disease. One of my family members has already had a heart attack and my question is specifically targetted at Ecosprin. This is what he takes on a regular basis. God Bless ya:). thanksss I think the difference may be in the details categorized as 'pain killers'. Maybe the article is talking about a different type of pain killer?? When you complain of chest pain in an ER or at home when the ambulance shows up, one of the first things that is going to happen is they are going to get you to swallow or chew up and swallow some aspirin (Ecosprin is just coated aspirin to ease the reaction in the stomach). As mentioned in the earlier answer, it keeps the blood from clotting so easily (technically, it interrupts an element of what's called the 'clotting cascade'). Clots interrupting blood flow through the heart are a cause of heart attacks so at the first sign of one just about everyone should have it. I have never read an article that said that aspirin (ASA or ECASA) lead to a heart attack. I hope this helps. Jeff the nurse in Nashville. i hope not. My doctor has got me taking an asprin a day for my heart ! Aspirin has long been known to decrease the clumping of platelets which are a small cells in your blood that start the blood clotting process. Clumping platelets in narrowed diseased arteries can block the blood flow and lead to stroke and heart attack. Bottom line is that aspirin should help and not hurt the heart. what i know is that asprin is known & given in small doses (baby asprin) to decrease the risk of a heaty attack. cuz it inhebits platelets actions, & decrease the risk of the heart's arteries fom getting blocked... |
