Weaning myself off painkillers.....or cold turkey??? |
I have found myself becoming addicted to painkillers, i use them mainly to help me sleep, away from the world, tramadol is a recent one, i have been admitted to the hospital a few times as ive taken too many ended up sick etc, they havent offered me any help, so now its down to me. I dont take them to make me sleep as such, i guess its more of a depression, sleeping while the world continues around me, i dunno, hard to explain. Im petrified of going to the doctors. Going `Cold turkey` can do more harm than good, so don't do it. The best thing for you to do is to ask your GP to refer you to a Pain Clinic at your local hospital. Here, a specialist in pain management will prescribe alternatives to Tramadol, such as Gabapentin and Dihydrocodeine. i would suggest seeing your doctor and he will help or refer you to someone that can good luck ...you can do it !!!!! Do NOT do this alone. See your doctor first. You may also wish to go to your county mental health clinic. This could be very traumatic. Get help. If you have sleeping problems then maybe you could take an herbal remedy that promotes natural sleep, kalms are good for this and it relaxes you. Wean yourself off the painkillers daily than just stopping cos your body prob is reliant on them(depending on the time scale). Over the month you could of possibly come off the painkillers all toghether, maybe find an hobby or interest to take your mind off the situation. Also speak to your doc to see what he as to offer.Good luck! |
