Co-codamol painkillers to help me sleep.?

I had a dental procedure and was given some co-codamol to help with the pain. I've found that these help me get to sleep as I have always had trouble getting to sleep and have not been able to find anything that can help.
Until now. Do you think my doctor will give me more of them or is this how people get addicted to painkillers?

Hi Sugga,
Carry on using the co-codamol for the pain, if the pain is gone but you still need help with going to sleep try using herbal "Nytol" - it really works and you don't wake up feeling drugged.
Take care.
xx

You should only have them for pain,,8 being a maximum,,No doctor will prescribe these as these as a sleep aid,,they are a strong analgesic

Co-codamol will help you to sleep because they contain codeine.

They also contain other painkillers (probably paracetamol) which in the long run will mess you up. If you have problems sleeping tell your doctor he may be able to help but co-codamol abuse is a really bad idea (you will also build up tolerance pretty quickly to the effects of codine)

Co-codomal is really really bad for people getting addicted for some reason, and its not even that much stronger than paracetamol. So your GP is unlikely to give you any, especially to help you sleep. I'd try other things to help you sleep if I were you e.g. lavender on the pillow, warm bath, no caffeine after 6, warm milky drink etc, and if that all fails then go and try some over the counter preparations. Sleeping pills are also not something your GP is likely to give out easily and they can be a nasty viscious cycle.

These are awful. I was on them recently, they made me sick, dizzy and I couldn't sleep for the life of me, but I guess they effect us all differently. Your doctor won't prescribe them for sleep as they screw up your liver and supposedly cause anorexia and are very addictive. Your doctor will help you with sleep though, so you should still go and see him.

You could try Benadryl. But, why not talk it through with your
Doctor. Do not get on that pain killer road. It is very bumpy,
dangerous. Best of luck...
