Has anybody ever been addicted to painkillers?

i used to cramp up alot, and take loads of painkillers, i cant get off them, any tips?

I used to take vicodin like it was my job. Its pretty dangerous and unhealthy. The best way to get off of them is to just take lower and lower doses. You cant just completely stop because your body is used to it and it will react. So slowly ween yourself away from them.. It might take awhile, but it'll be worth it in the end.

What kind of painkillers? Do you mean opiates/narcotics or are you talking about Advil, Motrin, etc.?
Doctors don't really give out opiates for menstrual cramps.

If you are addicted to opiates, then you need professional help getting off of them. I'm dead serious. You cannot do this on your own. Most large hospital centers have detox departments. All they do there is get people OFF narcotics. Check your closest major hospital. And insurance WILL cover getting off the medication. All of it.

***Here.....I checked out one of the larger hospitals near where I live. They have substance abuse services there (just so you could look at what I'm talking about):

Tell somebody, and yes they are very addictive. That's what Elvis Presely died of

Either stop taking completely and try to go without them, then if you really have to have one after a few days take just 1.

Otherwise try to leave it longer between each dose and gradually decrease it until you're off them completely. You could also find a support group or see your doctor for help.

get your Dr to give you methadone i use to be the same way !!!!!!!

You could do a self referral to a methadone clinic. They could get you either on methadone or suboxone to help relieve the withdrawal and cravings. Suboxone is more expensive. You have to also see your counselor and go to groups to learn how to cope, and what stressors lead to using, that way you can start a weaning plan and get off everything for good. You don't have to go the methadone/ suboxone way and do a 12 step program. Which ever works for you personally, YOU make that choice for yourself, just know admiting you have a problem is the first step. YOU have to be the one who wants to quit. Good luck!

Tell your doctor and they can help you get off them or refer you to a pain management clinic. Good luck

Narcotics Anonnomous

yea been there, should be dead, suboxone saved my life, and if your income is less than 19000 a year, you can get the meds for free through an assistance program.
