Sore from lifting weights, any reason to not use painkillers?

So I've recently started lifting weights. I've been inactive for a LONG time and I expected to feel sore for a while.

But now I wonder if taking painkillers would do any harm? I know that the human body feels sore for a reason, but would it do any damage to use painkillers and kill the pain?

It is a bad idea to take painkillers for that purpose.

Some of this question is based on your own ideas. Pain killers for me are to dull unavoidable, purposeless pain. For example, if you fall down stairs and twist your ankle, it's perfectly acceptable to use painkillers. However, soreness is your body telling you "hey, you tore up these muscles lifting. I'm rebuilding here, don't do any more damage for awhile, okay?" The biggest danger here is that you continue to train, which would in all likelihood lead to overtraining and serious, long-term muscle damage.

In addition to this, you could become dependant on the painkillers. Many also act as blood thinners, and I don't know if you drink alcohol or not, but alcohol also dilutes the blood, so combining the two is major bad news bears.

There's so many reasons to NOT do this (unless your muscles REALLY hurt and you need to take the pain killers to go about your normal business) that I'm just going to list some links in the sources for ya.

Stay Healthy,

Jared

Nope. Advil is a lifter's best friend.

try Motrin, it is a pain reliever and anti inflammatory.
