How long does it take for painkillers to take full effect??

i had an abcess cut open and a banadged stuffed in .. this banadage has to be change every day thus having lots of extreme pain from the movement of the raw open skin .... i have been pescribed tylenol no 3 .... i was just wodering how long does it take for the full effect of the painkillers after i have taken it to kick in the body .... and if i still find it painful after 2... can i take 3???

Do NOT take more tylenol than the dosage recommended by your doctor. If you do you risk serious liver damage/failure. If that happens you will need a liver transplant or you will die.

Only Tylenol 3? Those heartless...

Ask your doctor for something stronger. Tell him the Tylenol with codeine isn't cutting it. Don't exceed your dosage.

Well IDK about tylenol 3 but if it's codeine based I wouldn't take three. If I take Ultram it takes about 1 hour whereas with Vicodin it's takes maybe too. Be careful dude: pills are not meant to be abused!

sorry, tylenol 3 is about equal to xtra strenght tylenol!! take 4 if u want!

If you are taking them by mouth which I'm sure you are about 1/2 hour to an hour but you shouldn't take 3 unless your doctor says it is OK. If you are still experiencing pain after taking the amount that is prescribed tell your doctor maybe something else should be prescribed. Good luck.Tylenol # 3's do have codine in them.

I feel for you man, I turn into a possessed person when I have teeth pain!!! Call the doctor and tell him what kind of pain your in, do it before his office closes, emergency charges are crazy!!! The dentist might need to adjust something. Take your medicine as prescribed. You need to space them out so you'll have enough!!! Good luck!!

It takes about 45 min- 1 hour to get relief.
Yes you could take 3 if 2 isn't doing it but I wouldn't recommend more than that.
The key is to take then every 3-4 hours religiously so you always have them in your system.
You will be much more comfortable keeping the pain under control and need to take less than always waiting till you are in pain and then trying to get the pain level down.
For my patients I also warn them that T #3 can make you constipated so take with a gentle laxative once a day to prevent the codeine from giving you grief in that department.
Good luck and get well soon.

Normally most medicines will take effect in 30 min. to an hour. As for the dosage you should ask your pharmacist or doctor.
