Does this kind of pain sound like IBS? Above the navel, in constant spasm, normal painkillers don't work...

I've had stomach pains for the past 3 years that have yet to be diagnosed. My doctor thinks it's IBS but I haven't had the proper tests yet. The stomach pains are:

- about 3cm above my navel
- come on quickly, usually in about 10 minutes
- get slightly better when I lie down on my front
- don't get better with painkillers, passing wind, going to the loo
- get more bearable and occasionally go away with buscopan
- are a constant stabbing pain
- usually go away by sleeping them off overnight

Does anyone else have these kinds of pains? Does this sound like IBS bearing in mind I only occassionally have the other symptoms (diahorrea/bloating) say once or twice a month. Thanks!

I've not been to see a gynecologist yet, only my GP. I'll make note of that to ask him when I next go.

And yeah I've just got back from travelling (oh dear!) and the only stress I have is dealing with not being a student anymore *sniff* and trying to find a real job..

Hey...i know what you are going through....try this.....could be food allergies.....for me , I had been a milk and dairy product lover.....I found out I am lactose intolerant....peanuts , a lot of foods can cause these stomach pains....I would suggest, you see a food allergist, explain your symptoms and then go from there.. good luck sweetie!

Are you seeing a general practitioner, or your gynecologist? If you have not gone to see a gyn yet, I definitely would. Has your doctor given you a referral to a specialist?

Sounds like you may have an alien brewing in there - suggest you seek a less stressful position in life, go travelling and soak up some sunshine!
IBS tends to go away when you change lifestyle and thats easier than taking medication over a long period.
