Is it safe to take pain relievers before taking a contraceptive pill?

im about to have my period i can feel the cramps now, but sometimes, the cramps are unbearable. im thinking of taking pain relievers now, but im planning to take my pill for the very first time, at 10pm, and its only 8, but the cramps are here already, is it safe to take the pain relievers before taking the pill? will this affect effectiveness with birth control?

It usually takes a month for the pill to become effective anyways, you're fine.

If you're sexually active, keep using condoms for about a month or more after you take your first pill

It's not a magic bullet that makes your unable to conceive, but a hormonal signal that tells your body you are already pregnant, so that you dont release another egg. It takes time for this signal to become effective & your pain medication should not effect this.

Your doctor should have told you that the pill will not become effective immediately. There are some anti-biotics that can lower effectiveness of the hormones, but it is always best to list your birth control methods when at the doctor's office.
"Are you taking any medications?"
Birth control is medication and should always be disclosed.

Also, I am able to take my BC in a manner which only gives me a period every 3 months. You may want to speak with your doctor about obstaining from your menstrual flow for a few months at a time, especially if it give you severe pain. There is even some women who take their BC continually, resulting in no menstruation at all (sometimes with a little spotting)

Heating pads, like the ones you plug into the wall or the ones you can microwave are very effective for relieving cramping & spasms in the muscles of your uterus, and have no negative side effects.

Any pain medications (even tylenol & midol) have a negative impact on your kidneys, stomach or liver & should only be used if other options dont work.

NSAIDS (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs Such As Aspirin) kill over 7000 people every year, due to overdose or chronic usage. They can be dangerous if you do not follow your doctor's or the safety label's instructions.

Good luck to you!

You will probably still get a period, uh huh.

yes it's safe and no it wont affect the birth control

Perfectly safe. There are some antibiotics that will lower the effectiveness of the pill but you are 100% fine with regular painkillers.

tylenol, advil, etc, doesn't interfere w/ birth control pills and won't affect their ability to prevent pregnancy. the only time you need to worry about that is if you are prescribed a prescription by your doctor when you are sick or something, be careful to read the description to make sure they don't reduce the effectiveness of the pill. also...make sure to still use a condom, you don't want an std!

No problems with combining the two. The pain killers won't affect the pill.
