Is it safe to take pain relievers for cramps while on the 'pill'?

im about to have my period real soon now, i can feel it. and im suppose to take my contraceptive pills for the very first time. i get really really bad cramps, the doctor said it will be lessened by the pill, but what if there is still pain that i cant take? is is safe to take a pain reliever? is there a specific brand? and how much will the painreliever affect the contrceptive pill with regards to birth control? will it cause the pill to lessen effectiveness? sorry many questions, i should have asked my doctor this but it takes a week before i can talk to him again and im about to get my period in a few days.

Yes, it is safe to take pain relievers for cramps even when on the pill. What you need to do for sure, is avoid aspirin. Aspirin will thin your blood, and you don't want that. You can use advil which is ibuprofen, or you can use aleve which is naproxen, you can even use regular tylenol. Your pill will not lose effectiveness from taking those pain relievers. The birth control will be at the same level on pain relievers as it is off of them. Take care.

yes i take them when i have mine midol works..or the store brand midol if you are concerned about price/quantity...lol it wont affect it in regards to birth control...if you are concerned and want more information and your doctor isnt available,go to a local free clinic and ask them the questions,if not wanting parents/guardians to know is an issue free clinics are under the same confidentiality laws that doctors are.

they are fine....go ahead and take them....the will not have an affect with the pills

YES IT IS SAFE. IM ON THE PILL & WHEN I HAVE CRAMPS, I PREFER TO USE ADVIL OR MOTRIN (IBUPROFEN ). IF U HAVE SEVERE CRAMPS, MOTRIN (IBUPROFEN) 800MG WORKS THE BEST. AT LEAST IT DOES IN MY CASE.
