Does anyone know of any natural pain relievers?

My brother in law is at a very bad stage of cancer, he has the strongest will of anyone I know. He has been taking medications for pain that are giving him alarming side effects. He can't distinguish between the cancer and the pain medication side effects (vicadin). He has never had panic attacks before, but now he is, along with a whole string of other bizarre side effects. My heart is breaking for him. Can anyone suggest some natural pain relief.

Panic attacks are not a side effect of vicodin but are a side effect of late stage cancer and trying to come to grips with one's own mortality. His Dr should be able to give him some ativan or valium that would put him at ease. This is standard therapy for advanced cancer and these panic attacks are not something that an individual should try to tough out through strong will. Neither is it wise to try and deal with cancer pain without taking pain meds. There is no natural product that will help in this situation and it would be cruel to make someone with late stage cancer suffer unnecessarily. Maybe a different pain med might be helpful to him but there is nothing other than maybe religion or family that will produce calm when dealing with late stage cancer. There is no reason your BIL should be having pain or panic attacks so it is imperative that he talk to his oncologist about this and also his minister, priest, rabbi, etc. if religious.

If there is no chance of cure then he needs to plan for hospice care. Hospice specializes in dealing with end of life issues and helping make this pain and anxiety free. If your BIL has 6 months or less to live he needs to contact them. good luck.

Cathy has he tried Acupuncture. It has been very effective in helping patients with cancer pain. In fact acupuncture works better on severe pain then mild.
Have him ask his oncologist. Many cancers centers are getting into integrated medicine.

I'm with Lindsey. Marijuana not only helps with pain, but promotes healing. The cannibas plant is one of the best plants in the world.

Chili peppers are where capsasum comes from for products that heat the skin. Eating them, any chili pepper, will kick in your bodies own natural pain killers. It worked for me when my neck was bad. (I had 2 bad discs and bone spurs that moved my throat forward). Try some spicey salsa and chips! I use Red Gold brand diced tomatoes. There are several varieties. I use a can each of Mexican Fiesta, Roasted Garlic and onion, and with Green chilis. Then, add some chopped chili peppers for more heat. (You can use powdered cayenne pepper, just a small dash with the same pain relieving result.) This will help some, not all the pain. I still took vicadin, but not as much of it. Hope this helps!

I know of people whose cancer has 'spontaneously remitted' (WENT AWAY for no known reason) AFTER they went on programs of herbs and nutrition to restart their immune systems.
