Do prescription pain relievers really expire? |
I know there is an expiration date, what happens when they expire? are they just not as potent or harmful? Usually doesn't matter if they've gone beyond the expiration by a little bit - if they have been kept in a cool dry place. The answer to the question is Yes. Prescription pain relievers really do expire. What happens is at a certain point they become less effective not poisonis neccesarally more along the lines of less effective. It is best that any meds that are expired are thrown out or discussed with your doctor. Even the advice I am giving you should always be double checked with your doctor as I am not your doctor but a nurse. Most drugs loose their effectiveness over time. It's best to dispose of drugs that are way past their expiration dates. |
