Best pain reliever with little to no side effects? |
I'm going to have a couple of teeth pulled next week.. Which (prescription) pain reliever won't make me completely spaced out or make me feel like I have energy out the yin yang and can't sit still? Basically, which pain reliever has the least side effects? This really depends on the person. People react differently to different drugs wrt side effects. Codeine may space one person out, and the next only constipate (one reason they tell you to drink lots of water with tylenol 3). Toradol is a good one, at least it was for me, but it made me very tired. That said if i had enough food with it i wouldn't feel the effect of the fatigue as much. advil works pretty good as a over the counter pain medicine.... Meditation and relaxation have the "BEST" side effects. Don't be afraid of pain, embrace it, and tell yourself that pain reminds us that we are still alive! Ibuprofen (Advil) is pretty good but you should not take it on an empty stomach. The pain reliever with the least side effects is acetaminophen (Tylenol). Large doses however can impair liver function. just wait till the local injections work, then you dont have to worry. seriously, the thought is worse than the act. Tramadol, trade name "ultram" is a prescription drug that has narcotic like effects. In some people, though, it doesn't have as much sedation as, let's say, vicodin. Darvon or Darvocet is a weak opioid with very little sedative properties so you might ask your dentist for that. But being so weak, you also still might be in pain. So, if you really want to kill the pain, I'd go with ultram. If you want an over the counter drug, advil is the way to go. In a strong enough dose (800 mg.) it will cut your pain very well and you won't get sedated or hyper. Good luck with your extractions! try eating cheese....it'll decrease the pain for me... |
