Severe Chest pain 2 Weeks?

Went to my GP with severe chest pains cant breathe well cant lay down i am 31. He stated i have a weak heart and must stop smoking so i have for 7 days Pain is getting worse. Rung NHS direct and saw a doctor and he said Heart is fine No Infection, Lungs Clear. The pain is middle of chest neck shoulders. Have been dizzy and sweaty, Doctor today said Muscular pain take co-codamol. Which i have been taking for 2 weeks with absouotly no relief what so ever the pain can be so intense it takes my breath. The strength of pain killers are 500mg 2 to be taken 4 times a day which i have been doing for two weeks but pain does not subside any ideas. No change in Diet or exercise not lifted anything heavy either.

JOE : Thank you for the link that is the symptoms and the ease of leaning forward or sitting up but cannot lay down the pain is much to intense. Have printed that off thank you

you can't lie down flat? Because it makes the pain worse?

You may have pericarditis. Get that checked out ASAP

....go back to the doctor and explain exactly what you've explained in your question....

serously i wouldnt leave it any more especially with sweats, dizzy spells, maybe its time for a new doctor but in the mean time if it really is that bad go to the ER room..
i wouldnt leave it arent these signs of a heartattack....
see what the er has to say to be safe.. and change doctors.. always get a second opinon

Sit down with the phone and call an ambulance. You need to an ecg check or something similar, do not be fobbed of by NHS direct

go to hospital, now!

I wouldnt be fobbed off with the Doctors diagnosis. My son was diagnosed with a heart problem and sufferd severe chest pains which they said had them baffled. It was`nt Angina and they were quite satisfied with his progress on the medication he was taking. He died 3 weeks after seeing the specialist who said he did`nt want to see him for 12 months. He was 43.

My mum had the same symptons after a bout of pnuemonia. It lasted for at least two months. She had blood tests and an x-ray and they came back clear. Our doctor explained that some people develop this pain (on the breastbone) when the muscle becomes inflamed. If you press your breastbone does it hurt and feel tender? If you have had a really bad cold or flu recently, this could be the reason. I am no doctor and would obviously tell you to go back to your doctor if you are not completely satisfied. My mum was in agony too but it has now completely gone. Personally, I doubt it is anything more serious than muscular because you have been suffering with it for quite a while and Well Done you for quitting smoking!! Hope you feel better soon.

The very best advice I can offer you is to get yourself to A&E. The chances are that there is nothiong seriously wrong at all, but at least you will be given an ECG which will record your heart rhythm. Explain all of your signs and symptoms to the nurse or doctor. They will record your blood pressure and then eliminate any cardiac possibilities. There is nothing to be scared of they will take some blood for cardiac enzymes but apart from that there will be nothing painful to go through. I am a coronary care nurse so I know what I am talking about. There is no need for panic since the pain hasn't worstened, but elimination is the best answer because at least you will stop worrying which in itself can cause sweating dizziness etc. Go right now, and when you are sitting at home watching TV tonight, you will be happy in the knowledge that you have been examined. If anything is detected, it will only mean a few more tests and some medication. The worst thing I think it could be is angina WHICH IS NOT A HEART ATTACK!!!!! Just a nasal spray will be given to you. Get your coat on, go to your nearest A&E and know that you have acted responisbly.Good luck, please reply and let me know you have done it. Mel.

Mel has given you very good advice there. I suggest that you listen to her.
This may not be what you want to hear, but it is entirely possible that stress and anxiety could be causing these pains.
But you do need to go to A&E, and the sooner the better to get more serious possibilities eliminated.
Good luck.

You have some classic symptoms of heart dysfunction. Go to Emergency Ward now, and describe your symptoms. My mother's BF, age 62, had symptoms like this for months, and refused to see a doctor. When he finally passed out, and his son took him to Emergency, he was told he was *having* a heart attack, based on the ECG they performed on him there. He was transferred to another larger hospital, that specializes in heart care. An angiogram test was done on him, and he was told that he had had *at least one* heart attack prior to this one, and that he also already had significant heart muscle damage from ignoring his condition for so long. He was also found to have four blockages near his heart. They inserted one stent, and plan to insert two more into two more arteries at a later time.

This man is fit and trim for 62, exercises daily, and is extremely active. Goes to show, you just never know.

I'd advise trying to get an appointment with a cardiologist (heart specialist) and having heart studies done.

I think you have seen enough doctors and this problem remain unresolved. In fact from what you say it is getting worse. I urge you to go to A and E and state how much pain you are in and the entire symptoms.
i am astonished that those GP's you saw did not at least do ECG and maybe take some bloods! to rule out any cardiac problems. How does your GP know you have "a weak heart"?
It could also be muscular BUT these unresolved disturbing symptoms need proper assessment.

Don't start planning Xmas just yet
