PTSD after domestic abuse?

I am almost 18. I got out of an abusive relationship about 6 months ago (it was bad...my ex tried to kill me, then eventually ordered me to kill myself, which put me in the hospital). Ever since, I've had persistent nightmares, night terrors, intrusive thoughts, anxiety, insomnia, and panic attacks. My ex still tries to contact me, despite my family's best efforts to prevent it. The hospital couldn't diagnose chronic PTSD because the symptoms hadn't been present for 3 months yet. Now they have, and my psychiatrist still isn't sure if it's chronic.

Does anyone have any idea what I'm going to be like for the rest of my life? Will it give me trouble in future relationships?

First off, I am so sorry to hear that you went through this. It sounds horrifying. You certainly do seem to have many PTSD symptoms. You deserve help and support. You can heal from trauma and abuse and you don't deserve to suffer.

I hope that you will find a good therapist that specializes in the treatment of trauma and PTSD. There is a technique called EMDR that is wonderful for treating trauma. EMDR is a method of psychotherapy that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. To find out more about it, or to find an EMDR therapist, click here:

If EMDR does not feel like the thing for you, you might also consider Somatic Experiencing, another trauma technique that is more body based. To find a therapist, click here:

The earlier you get into treatment, the better off you'll be. This event doesn't have to negatively shape the rest of your life. You can heal and have a happy, healthy life. Explore, and find a therapist that you feel safe with. Good luck to you.
