PTSD and Hallucinations?

I've been diagnosed with PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) but my doctor doesnt seem to know why i am have hallucinations, have been having them since I was in third grade I am now 20 years old. They are visions not auditory, they move but do not speak or interact with me. Mainly when I was younger but still now I will get strong emotions (fear, hatred, lust ect) when seeing them and sometimes flashback type hallucinations shortly after seeing them, almost as if they are giving them to me...
Anyone EVER hear of something like this?

Your doctor is right, in that what you discribe is indeed ...kind of unusual.

Having said that....my guess is that these visions do indeed have some connection with your PTSD. While it's odd that you seem not to "interact" with them, nor do they seemingly interact with you, the fact that you find yourself having strong and discreet emotions when you see them......well.....that actaully *is* a form of interaction, you know ??

And the fact that your emotions are so intense and varied.....kind of indicates that there **is** some sort of "content" that your mind connects with them. I mean....people don't have strong emotions without there being something behind them, even if they can't put their finger on exactly what it may be.

I'm with th'gang in asking if you find yourself having "lost time" or any of the things he mentioned ??

Whatever the case, PTSD is no picnic, and can produce a lot of odd and scary symptoms. And not all T's are skilled in working with PTSD. So....Finding a T who has experience with ( and a real interest in) treating trauma is probably the first step.

What do you see in your hallucinations? Strong feelings and reactions are definitely a sign of something that happend to you or around you. Apparently, I've blocked a lot of memories since I was six years old, if not younger. Report It

yes, and it's probably normally associated with your PTSD

You should have a brain scan. You could be epileptic or have some kind of neurological problem.

Yep, I've heard of this.

It might be helpful to see a therapist if you're not already.

i've got ptsd also.I get flasbacks and nightmares.(sometimes i need to sleep with the light on).

Therapy would be a very good thing for you to consider. It is quite likely that you have some repressed issues or trauma that are trying to surface--and are likely part of your PTSD. There could also be other things going on that a therapist would be able to help you sort through.
Hallucinations and flashbacks are a big part of PTSD. Consider Vietnam Vets for instance, that cannot be around fireworks because the noises and explosions trigger flashbacks and cause them to hallucinate that they are actually back in Vietnam fighting right at that moment. Gl, and I hope this info helps.

Yeah, Ive heard of it and lived it. PTSD SUCKS!!!! problem is is that there is so much involved with it. I get the strong emotions, only my hallucinations are auditory, I am gonna answer Your question with one. Do you lose time? by that I mean are there times when you have no clue what youve done? have you ever found things in your home that you didnt purchase? like cloths etc. if so go find a good qualified trauma therapist cuz man your in for one hell of a ride.
