The 'Rewind Technique' help for PTSD sufferers.?

Since being informed of this by 'ormalu' on Q and A i have done alot of research on this technique, and have since booked an appointment for myself to go to a therapist for this treatment. As a PTSD sufferer for so many years it has already shown me a possible light at the end of my tunnel, so now i'm on a crusade to inform all you PTSD sufferers about this help available.

The best treatment for PTSD is the 'rewind technique' (adapted from the 'VK dissociation technique') - it gets rid of nightmares and flashbacks and is safe and effective if done by an experienced practitioner.

You can watch a video about it and why it works here http://youtube.com/watch?v=3tegspsxcgg..... - if you are in the UK it is especially easy to get hold of a therapist who can help.

WATCH THE VID ON THE WEB-SITE THEN GIVE YOUR OPINION!!!!!!!!

First of all, there are several reasons for PTSD.Mine happens to stem from 39 months of combat in Vietnam, and watching my buddies killed beside me,not to mention almost buying the farm my self several times. The stress of being constantly on guard and never relaxing day after day can take it's toll.I have had shrinks that have never been in the military try to explain to me what it was all about.I lost my family because of it because the good old Govt.did not recognize PTSD as a problem until it was too late for most of us Nam vets.I am on medication for it,and will be for the rest of my life, and all they do is put me in a stupor for most of the night. The dreams still come, and I take a little trip back to Nam at least twice a week.Let us not forget having to take the life of another person, those are ghosts that come back to haunt you ever night.I have tried the therapists, and they do not help when it comes to combat related PTSD.It may work for rape victims or car wreck victims, but let me assure you that it does not work for war vets.I have known many vets that have tried about every thing,Including myself.I am not trying to put anybody down,so if it works for you,go for it.

I'm so sorry to read that such a horrible thing happened to you. Be strong. and pray to GOD!! He will help you.

I completely DISAGREE with this and I have suffered from PTSD for many years. I also suffer from Dissociative Identity Disorder. This is making it sound as though a "trained professional" is "making" you dissociate and NO ONE can make you dissociate and then ask you to be a dang VCR. This is exactly what hinders us who suffer from DID from being understood. I understand there are many great treatments for PTSD but I cannot see this as one of them. This is almost as if someone is "guiding" you into repressed memories and if ones mind is not ready to remember this could be very dangerous and too overwhelming!!! No one should do this. This either comes natural or else it is false. No wonder there is still such a debate..... :o(

After trying the link, I was advised that it was a malformed identifier. This website shortens web addresses over a certain length. To get around this, I have adopted the technique of putting in the full link, and checking how it appears as a final post, then, if some is removed, putting the remainder in brackets, with a space before the start of the bracket: for example: http://www.naturaltherapypages.com.au (.au/therapy/Neuro_Linguistic) (Linguistic_Programming). Kindly repost it, or wait until after tomorrow's therapy: email me, through my profile, and I will post general details of both the therapy, and the link, here at Yahoo! Answers, and in the section on PTSD, in my website, on page 6, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris I imagine it would involve revisiting the original traumatic situation, in a relaxed environment, possibly using an anxiolytic, over several sessions, enabling the slow release of the emotional charge associated with such memories. Thanks for this initial attempt to help others; I note that Opester, a therapist with 20 years of experience, and a regular contributor here, has stated that PTSD can be completely cured: you may want to check out her previous answers.

Unfortunately, the Rewind Technique for the treatment of symptoms associated with PTSD is not something that I could recommend. There is little scientific evidence of its validity or indeed whether such a treatment could work with PTSD sufferers. The treatment appears to be somewhat unknown by the Royal College of Psychiatrists and further more the only appropriate treatment that should be attempted is professional counselling through psychotherapy or even CBT where the practitioner is appropriately registered and accountable. I fear that such treatments could exacerbate symptoms and do far more harm than good. I suggest that you look into more conventional treatments rather than wasting time and money on somewhat fad ideas and disciplines.

Wow. I suffer from ptsd also, but I've never had to go to this extent . I had a very good therapist who worked hard with me using "insight therapy." After about a year I stopped having flashbacks and nightmares and learned rational techniques for dealing with stressful events...also avoiding as much stress in my life as possible. She even "talked" me out of panic attacks! (go figure!) I was a "basket case" when I began treatment, now, years later my coping skills are wonderful and I rarely concern myself with my past traumas! Actually I did turn it all over to God... so the therapist and I had help! lol...good luck to all.
