I have bpd and ptsd but i worry sometimes multiple personality disorder- would i know if i had that to ?

what are the symptoms? is there treatment for it ? would i know about it if i had that to ?

plus even though my main diagnosis is BPD (borderline) my psychiatrist has accepted i could be suffering from ptsd symptoms to.....but if if i do have ptsd is it important for it to have it diagnosed ? officially ?

my psychiatrist said its not really important, only that i get the psychotherapy for my problems and for my long term problems to be treated ' hollistically '.....and not to be to concerned about labels....he said the main diagnosis with me is BPD.

what does anyone think about this ?

im 30 years old and have had a very troubled life

I disagree with guru...Dissociative Identity Disorder is not rare but often goes undiagnosed. I have it. My symptoms were repressed memories, disociative behavior, and extreme reactions to normal situations (Protective personality within trying to control). I was never like Sybil. I was not split into alot of personalities, just a few. They never had their own names. I currently still have at least 2 that I know of and they come out when I am angry or when I am feeling invalidated. I rarely disociate anymore (sometimes wish I still could).

Your therapist is right. The diagnosis isn't that important as long as you are working on yourself for the long term. Hang in there my friend...sending good energy your way. (((Rochefort)))

I think you're psychiatirst is probably right. Psychotherapy is one of the best treatments for almost all psychiatric disorders; I don't think it's very important to have an official diagnosis as long as you're happy with the treament. Your problems are individual to you and your history, and can all be discussed in therapy.

ask yourself this question

have i multiple personality disorder

if you get two answers, yes you have.

True multiple personality disorder, which is now known as DID, Dissociative Identity Disorder, is very rare. Many times, one personality is not aware of the other or others for many years. It's unlikely that you have this disorder, but shouldn't worry about labels as much as trying to cope with the problems you know you have.

i have bipolar ptsd and did (formerly multiple personality) would you know if you have it yes - I got it when i was young and i realized it about 20 years later through therapy which is so so important that i still had it and i was still using it when i was scared of something or when something bothered me, and i was unable to work it out which i am now doing through therapy.

REMEMBER ONE THING YOU ARE YOU YOU ARE A PERSON YOU ARE NOT I REPEAT NOT BIPOLAR NOT PTSD NOT DID it is a disorder that you have BUT YOU ARE A FUN HAPPY GO LOVING PERSON
