Ptsd flashback?

I`m seeing and hearing things that happened to me 20 years ago and it is so real. what is a ptsd flashback and explain to me what all this means. It really might just save my life

I think a ptsd flashback is exactly what you are experiencing. If your disorder is military related, go talk to somebody at the VA about getting help. If it is related to some other experience, get a psych eval done. I haven't had any flashbacks while I've been awake, just nightmares and occasional depression. Usually it seems like I have a desire to go back to the bad and make it better, but I don't think in reality it can be done, or I would have done it the first time I was there.

Definitely don't be afraid to ask for help. There is no shame in asking for it, and you are right. It may save your life.

PTSD = Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome.

I don't really believe in it myself, but apparently sometimes soldiers who come back from war, or other people who go through traumatic stuff can have flashbacks - similar to what you are describing.

I would suggest seeking medical attention, or at least trying to find a local support group for other people with the same problem.

a ptsd flashback is exactly what you describe... you see and hear things that happened to you during a traumatic event... and yes they are very real.....

EMDR is a good treatment for PTSD... google EMDR and you will find lots of good information.. then look for a therapist near you that does EMDR....

I'm glad to see EMDR mentioned. It was very helpful for me several years ago when I was having a stressful time working on emergency squads, and then had a nightmare about a particularly bad car crash from 3 years before where 5 people were killed.
So yes, from what little you're describing, it could well be PTSD, and I encourage you to contact a mental health professional for an evaluation and possible counselling.
And to the poster above--it's easy to say "I don't believe in PTSD," but if you say that, it's also obvious you've never suffered from it.
