OCD or PTSD?

My brother drowned and I almost drowned at the same time when I was 13. That was 1994, I was always a nervous person but it got worse after this.i didn't deal with my brother's death very well, I just kind of forgot about it and didn't have any counselling besides one or two sessions with a child psychologist. In 1999 I began having these bad feelings, these horrible feelings that something bad was going to happen to me,it lasted for about a month and I couldn't do anything at all. They eventually went away.I have been pretty nervous about things since then,I always think the worst is going to happen.A few months ago I started having horrible feelings that something bad was going to happen to my younger sister. It lasted for about two months, then I went on effexor and I started doing better.I started getting these bad feelings again a few days ago,not as bad as before but a feeling of dread.Has anyone else ever had feelings like this about their family members before? could this be PTSD?

Both. OCD is caused by anxiety and the thoughts act as your rituals. Fear is also a ritual that OCD patients exhibit. The PTSD is reliving the event over and over, doesn't have to last everyday. Get help!

it sounds like you have post traumatic stress disorder because you are remembering the feelings of it over and over you should go get it checked out by a psychologist

could be ptsd, but it sounds more like an anxiety attack

it sounds like ptsd. my best advice is to see a good counselor and try a different med. if you talk it out you will come to terms with your pain and be able to cope with it better. if not it will simply linger and never get resolved. get help. deal with your loss. the best way to do this is to talk to someone trained to deal with it. good luck.

peace&hope

Definitely sounds like PTSD to me. Talk to a psychiatrist. There are some excellent meds (Paxil, Zoloft) that work really well for PTSD. Also get into some counseling. Try to find a counselor who specializes in trauma/.PTSD.

Your symptoms are typical of PTSD.You need to get back to counseling and get some meds to calm your rain down..see a doc ASAP !
