I have PTSD and don't want to take the medication.?

I've had PTSD since I was raped when I was nine. I've tried diffrent medications but they all seem to make me flip out. I've been dealing with the symptoms for about a year and a half with no med's. I'm always stressed and scared, I can't leave the house without feeling like I'm gonna walk down the street and have a flashback. Is there any kind of herbal supplement or anything I can take to at least get rid of this anxitey and constant fear?

Crutches are made for people with broken legs. Although they are inconvenient, down right uncomfortable, and unflattering they do help the person to remain mobile and give them the ability to keep moving ahead. That would not be there without the crutch.

Some times crutches are a temporary fix until the leg heals, but then there are those situations where they become a walker and stay with the person for the rest of their life. It takes a great deal of courage to use a walker and keep doing it. Sometimes it would be just easier to sit down and .........

Medications are the same. If you have not got the right one, and in the right dose then consider trying another type. When you were on meds, were you "ALWAYS STRESSED OUT AND SCARED.....LIKE I'M GOING TO HAVE A FLASHBACK?"

The operative word there is the ALWAYS you use to describe your condition for the "last year and a half". Was it just occasionally, sometimes, or even frequently that you felt weird while on meds? It is all a matter of degree.

My experience is with veterans but your experience was similarly traumatic. As veterans we do not really expect to ever really get rid of the symptoms. We wish we could. We try sometimes for years without success. We do however work to learn to cope with them in a more healthy way to make our lives more fulfilling and sometimes even enjoyable.

I am not ruling out the use of herbal supplements because sometimes they help. I am just asking you to reconsider your expectations. Remember PTSD is simply a normal human reaction to an abnormal inhumane experience. Maybe it isn't fair but in the end we each have to do our best.

My prayers are with you. Please remember that courage is not simply the lack of fear. It is however, what we are able to do in spite of our fears.

bless

see a psychiatrist or psychologist for counselling

I would recommend 5-htp along with some valarian root. That would help calm you and put you at ease.

i never took any pills until my brother committed suicide. but my anxiety was killing me. i take meds now and life is soooo much better. thats why we have them. you dont have to suffer
