Do I have PTSD?

I was treated for an accidental Unisom sleep aid overdose last month, and it was one of the most intense and traumatic experiences I have ever had. I came close to dying because of what the medication did to my heart. After coming out of the emergency room, I noticed that I was still feeling very anxious about the whole thing. Even after the toxins left my body, I would feel unusually nervous, but I didn't think it was serious. The doctor gave me a prescription for Trazodone and Ativan to help with my insomnia. I took the meds as prescribed, and after two weeks, I saw improvement in my sleeping pattern so I weaned off the medication. My anxiety got way worse after I stopped. I would get vivid flashbacks of the hospital visit, and I experienced my first panic attack after seeing a TV news report on Heath Ledger's death. Anything about death in general makes me deeply uncomfortable now. Can this be PTSD associated with my anxiety?

:) Thanks so much for your answers!

get for yourself your own personal mirror
carry it with you

look at yourself

see what is behind you...

Please get to therapy as quickly as possible.

absolutely possible.... Try an SSRI like lexapro or paxil or zoloft... also look into propanenol, it is a heart medication that has lately been found rather effective in anxiety attacks and PTSD

If you continue to have panic attacks - say, several more times, then yeah; that's ptsd. I don't think just one epidsode qualifies you tho just yet :)

yes. seek a psychologist or psychotherapist or psychiatrist to find out for sure. I can't diagnose you over the internet.

Yes I have an anxiety disorder and this coincides with Post traumatic stress disorder as mine slipped into agoraphobia I thought if I went outside I would get a virus or even meningacoccal.I dont think it was the right time to stop your meds If you live near sydney look up the black dog clinic you will need a referal from your doctor to see them
