What is PKU?


i need help. i am doing a project on PKU and i was wondering if u ppl new anything about it or could help me with getting good sites to use. THANKS!!!!!!!! so what ever u no/find about PKU would rock!!!!!

phenylalanine is found commonly in protein, caused by a faulty gene (12th chromosome)
for most parts both parents have to be "carriers" of the faulty gene (another instance includes 2 pku parents)

pku is an abbreviation for phenylketonuria, a genetic disorder. people with pku lack the enzyme that is needed to break down phenylaline(an amino acid found in milk)
this is a reccessive allele
