I have a 8 mo. old with pku and was wondering if i can get ssi for him ? |
his protein intake is very limited and to give him variety he needs foods that cost a great deal more than regular food. him having three older siblings plus his father and me we don't have alot of extra money. i thought ssi would help a great deal with his food expences. Is your child covered by private health insurance, or is he on medicaid or a similar public health program/ If he is on a public (welfare) type health care program, he may qualify for other programs too. most states have special programs to help childtren with permanent handicaps or health probllems. If he goes to a public clinic, ask if they have a social worker who can help you look into this. Also, hospital social workers are very knowledgable in these things. You could ask to speak to the hospital social worker at the hospital where he has been treated. You can read the link below to get SSI information and how to contact them. you could also do a web search for handicapped childrens programs in your state. Also ask your doctor for a referral to any support groups for PKU kids in your area and talk to other parents. And, you coud do a web search for support groups near you. just enter "PKU, support groups'. There are many listed on the web. Other parents might be your best source of information. Good luck to you and your son. |
