WHAT exactly is PID??? need help i'm doing a paper on it!?

part of this paper i have to answer these questions on a separate sheet before i put them onto the paper to help organize better so i have a couple questions to ask that i cant find elsewhere.....
What is PID???
How is it treated???
Symptoms???
And how long after being infected with STD's (if thats the cause) does it take for PID to develop?

PID is pelvic inflammatory disease. It is a complication that arises from prolonged infection of the female reproductive tract. Usually, PID is a complication of prolonged chlamydia infection, but gonorrhea, bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis can also lead to PID in the long run.

You can treat PID by curing the underlying infection. This can be done with antibiotics; the specific antibiotic depends on the specific infection.

Symptoms include abdominal cramping, pelvic pain, painful sexual intercourse, fever, painful urination, discharges, etc.

Prolonged bouts of PID can lead to infertility. PID causes infertility by clogging the Fallopian tubes and uterus with scar tissue. This scar tissue forms in response to the inflammation of the internal linings of these structures -- hence pelvic INFLAMMATORY disease.

While not all PID is caused by STDs, STDs are a major contributing factor. It can take 3 weeks to several months for an infection to result in PID.

PID is Pelvic Inflammatory Disease. There are several symptoms, some similar to common Vaginal Infections. It is treated with Antibiotics usually, and sometimes Hospitalization is required. Try going on-line to WebMD for more details.

1) PID = pelvic inflammatory disease, it is inflammation involving lower female genitalia that extends to involve the inner lining of the pelvis (peritoneum)

2) It is treated by giving antibiotics as well as treating the underlying cause (the one that started everything).

3) Underlying causes can be: STD, IUD (intrauterine contraceptive device), sever UTI, septic lower genitalia injury etc..

4) Presentation: pelvic pain, tenderness, fever, nausea, signs of sepsis

5) Now good luck in doing your paper :D
