How do I find out if undiagnosed PID (pelvic inflamatory disease) has left me infertile?

I just got diagnosed with PID - am having tests done to see what STI or other may have caused it. However I've had the pain for several years on and off, so am pretty sure this has been going on for a while. I am trying to get pregnant (have been trying for 6 months) and am scared my tubes will be blocked and I'll be infertile. How can I check, as the doctor said it's just "wait and see". As I have IBS, then I've pretty much ignored the pain, and am feeling pretty stupid!

Don't feel stupid. It can be hard to read the signs your body is sending.
Be patient for a little while and let your body heal. Once the inflamation has gone down you can get some tests done. There's a test where they inject a dye into your uterus to see if it goes through your falopian tubes. They use some sort of imaging to see if the tubes are blocked (sorry, I don't remember the exact name and I don't have time to look it up right now). Sometimes this procedure will even clear out minor blockage.

You can only wait and see. After one year of trying, ask to be referred to a fertility clinic. Not worth you getting all upset or worried until you know exactly whether your tubes are blocked or not and only the fertility clinic can tell you that. If you want more info, contact me.

Usually you need to try & conceive for a year before nhs will start testing. Meantime you could buy an ovulation thermometer & make yourself a little chart with the days of the month.beginning on the first day of your next period take your tenperature BEFORE you get out of bed in the morning. at ovulation you will notice a slight drop in your temp followed by a rise the following day. (I had to do this as part of the investigations). This will let you know your fertile time & also you can keep them & give them to your doctor if you dont fall pregnant naturally soon. Good luck

hey,
i had a huge drop in weight bout 5 years ago and my periods stopped for just over a year and a half. since then they are so erratic and i never really cared bout kids but recently i started the pill and ask my doctor some ways to test for fertility and she said they can test for ovulation, as long as i'm not on the pill. its just a blood test and if there are any other problems they wont show and obviously the probs related the pid wont show but its a step none the less, and as far as i know it can be done any time. ask to speak to a female doctor or nurse at your surgery, if not try your local walkin clinic if you have one.
its your doctors resonsibility as well as yours to know about other problems that could be causing this pain, so if he never told you to remember the pain might not be caused by you ibs, he has in my opionion let you down a bit. not enough to sue him, please dont do that but dont leave the blame squarley on your shoulders alone.
and dont get your hopes up too much, with todays lifestyle diet and pollution, more and more people cant conceive, and ask yourself this: do i really just want to give a kid a leg up in life and care for it in its early years, or do i want to fulfil my own maternal desires and instincts. those instincts are very strong because it ensures the nxt generation but if you wallow in those feelings and wrap yourself up in them you will be wanting a child for you not for the child, now if you just want to give a child a good start in life why make another one when there are many children already here in desperate need of love and support?
