Has anyone ever had a iud inserted with a past pid infection?

I know they say your not supposed to have an iud if you have had pid but it has been 6 years since I was diagnosed and treated and I just had my 2nd child and I need a reliable method of b/c that allows me to breastfeed. But after the horror stories online about iuds, I am very scared of getting a serious infection after getting one inserted. I have also had many uti infections in the past and previous painful intercourse, I don't know if it makes the iuds more risk of infection to me or not. Please help if you have any info

Well ...I'm glad you asked this question. Its very common among women with history of PID's.

There are certain bacteria that normally dwell in the vaginal area. They cause no harm and remain alive by eating body fluids, which is termed as commensalism.Sometimes these bacteria can cause infections if the pH of vaginal area is very low.In your case this is the problem.Due to a low pH these normally harmless bacteria are multiplying and causing infections from time to time.

Now in your case, for birth control , an IUD is not advisable because with an IUD these bacteria will get a passage to travel inside your body and cause severe infection. The IUD will act as the vehicle for infection. The best contraceptive for you is a VCF or Vaginal Contraceptive Film. This when used will not have the risk of infection and as usual is 94% effective in preventing any more pregnancies. The advantages are quite many like:
1.No hormonal problems like in pills
2.No specialised healthcare staff required to help in insertion, you can use it without any help from outside.
3.Intercourses are better and more enjoyable.

Hope I helped.Take care.
