Do PET scans just show cancer?

I have a friend who had lung cancer. He took chemo and radiation. He then went into remission for several months. He has had a Pet scan every three months. I am thinking he has had two. This time they saw something in the lower lobe of one or maybe both, I don't know for sure. The doc says it could be scar tissue from his treatments or illness after that. He could be facing more chemo and/or radiation. Is cancer more aggressive after remission? Dose it still respond o treatments the same as it did the previous time? Does cancer have to be in just one place or one lung to be operated on. Also it was small cell cancer if that helps anyone. I do know that this is the most aggressive kind. I appreciate anyone who can help me find the answers that I seek.

To answer the first part of your question, no PET scans to do not just show cancer. They show all kinds of things, old fractures, cysts, enlarged organs, thinning bones, even if your bladder is full. They are however very useful in cancer treatment.
Small cell carcinoma of the lung only account for about 20% of all lung cancer cases. I am sorry to say if a small cell lung cancer recurs, the prognosis is very poor regardless of stage at diagnosis or the treatment the patient received. I鈥檓 talking months, most likely 2-5 months. Your friend鈥檚 oncologist knows the answers better than anyone and if it is okay with your friend your questions and concerns show be directed to him or her.

How's THIS for help: There's a new Swedish study which shows that human breast milk kills cancer. On the news this guy who drank human breast milk (with a prescription) beat cancer. It was discovered by Swedish scientists that human breast milk (spilled into a petri dish) kills cancer. People who drink it have had some success in fighting off cancer.

You need a prescription and it's about $3 an ounce at a breast milk bank, but it works.
