PET Scan results on enlarged lymph node in chest? |
Enlarged lymph node found on CT scan, had pet scan and showed no cancer. I now have a follow up CT scan tomorrow to see if lymph node size has changed. How accurate is Pet scan? Could it end up being cancer? What if size of lymph node has increased??Im nervous.....can anyone help answer my questions?? Thanks so much.... It would have been helpful if you had mentioned where and how big was the enlarged lymph node was found. PET scans will usually show malignancies over about 1/4 inch in size but will often miss very small cancers. While a wonderful diagnostic tool they are not perfect. There are many reasons you might have enlarged lymph nodes and still not have cancer. Infection or sarcoidosis are two things that immediately come to mind where a person might have enlarged lymph nodes and no cancer. The good news is that PET scans are simple to do and not invasive procedures. Good luck with your test. PET SCANS are very accurate they are a very, very wonderful piece of tech. PET scans, unfortunately, are far from perfect. I have had 2 PET scans come back positive for cancer. It showed active cancer in my lymph nodes. Both times I had biopsies, and it was nothing but an infection. PET scans are great in theory, but in reality they have many shortcomings. The very best thing to do when you may have any disease is calm down, you are where you will get the very best treatment. Wait and see the outcome then listen to your doctors. I am alive today because I did this. No panic. Just be calm. I had 11 lymph nodes removed, I lived. I don't believe PET scan can pick up something very small. Normal lymph nodes in the chest are in the size of 0.1cm, when enlarged, they could get to a size of 1cm. Since the CT did not find any tumors, you should not worry too much. |
