Pet scan that shows something in the left lung.?

doctor wants second pet scan in 90 days.i had breast cancer with right breast removed,2003,why do you think he wants second scan.i i`m asking this for my mother.

He wants a second scan in 90 days to make sure the nodule has not gotten any bigger in a few months. It PET scan would likely show if they suspect cancer. Evidently, it did not and they just want to make sure in 90 days that it is the same. Good luck.

A pet scan shows increase in metabolic activity in a particular place in the body. Cancer/ infections can light up as a spot on a pet scan. Your mother's doctor is probably looking to make sure that either the spot in the lung disappeared (i.e. it was something noncancerous) or if it is still there or larger, they may opt to biopsy it (if it's posssible to rule out cancer). Breast cancer can spread to the lungs that's why her doctor is concerned. You should not stress out over this issue. There is still a chance that it could be just an artifact.

What exactly does the PET report say?

Usually, if there is an uptake on the PET scan, then there is either something inflammatory (like a cold) going on, or it could be breast cancer that has spread to the lung.

He wants a second scan to see if there are any changes. If it is inflammatory, chances are pretty good that it will be gone by the next scan.

I had breast cancer in 2002 and a PET scan 2 weeks ago showed cancer in my breastbone, so I now have advanced breast cancer. I hope your mother stays in remission. Good luck to you.
